RESUMO

Background and Aim: Treatment of palmoplantar warts is a challenge for dermatologists. We aimed to study the efficacy and safety of Falknor's needling method in palmoplantar warts. Methods: In an open, nonrandomized study, the index wart of eligible patients was punctured several times with a 26-gauge needle to produce a “beefy” red wound. Patients were followed up to 6 months. Results: Out of 82 patients, complete resolution occurred in 58 (70.7%) and partial response in 5 (6.1%) patients. Nine (10.9%) patients developed secondary infection. Limitations: Small sample size, No comparison group. Conclusion: Falknor's needling method provides a high rate of complete resolution after a single treatment session. It is easy to perform and is cost effective.

RESUMO

The extra-abdominal form of desmoid tumor is very rare and the incidence of mammary desmoid tumor is <0.2% of primary breast neoplasm. We report a case of mammary fibromatosis in an elderly female in which no associated risk factor was discernible. After simple mastectomy as per the patient’s wish, in view of posterior margin positivity, adjuvant radiotherapy was given. The patient has remained recurrence free after one year of follow up.

RESUMO

The present study deals with assessment of water quality of four selected lakes in the Nagpur city using physicochemical and biological parameters especially phytoplankton and zooplankton community. Tropic level and pollution status of lakes were assessed on the basis of the Palmer's Pollution Index, Shannon Wiener Index and physico-chemical parameters. 57 genera belonging to 7 groups of phytoplankton and 10 genera belonging to 3 groups of zooplankton were identified from the lakes. Different patterns of dominance and sub-dominance of indicator plankton community and species along with physico-chemical quality observed confirm the pollution status of the lakes.
