RESUMO

A clinical analysis of 90 patients with primary and metastetic spinal cord tumours who were operated upon at Department of Surgery, Siriraj Hospital, was done. The overall incidence was higher in female than in male with the ratio of 1.3 to 1. Seventy two patients with age range from 20 to 70 was found to have tumors (80%). A rather slow progressive cord compression symptom was noted in the primary tumour in contrast to the rapid progression of symptoms in the group of metastetic ones. There were 71 cases of intradural tumour (78.89%) and 19 cases of extradural tumours with 13 of them metastasized form tumours elsewhere. The operative result was good for primary tumours but poor for metastetic lesions. There was no operative death in this series.
