RESUMO

Twenty pregnant albino rats were used in this study and divided into control and treated groups. The animals of the treated group were injected intramuscularly by a single dose of dexamethasone [0.5 mg/day] from the 5th to the 19th day of pregnancy. The control animals were injected intramuscularly by oily solution in amounts and at times corresponding to the treated animals. It was found that dexamethasone administration during pregnancy caused a decrease of the maternal gestational body weight gain, high incidence of resorption and fetal death. It also impaired the fetal growth in the form of a significant decrease in the lengths and weights of the maternally treated fetuses. It was advised to avoid the use of dexamethasone in pregnant women throughout the period of pregnancy to avoid developing pancreatitis in mothers and their newborns and also to avoid its teratogenic effects

RESUMO

Sixteen pregnant Californian rabbits were used in this study and divided into control and treated groups. The later group was injected with tetracycline from the 11th to the 15th day of pregnancy by a single daily dose [5 mg/kg]. Small fragments from the tail of the fetal pancreas at 3 and 20 days postnatally were taken and processed for EM examination. The exocrine and endocrine parts of the control fetal rabbit pancreas reached the adult form at the 20th day after birth as detected by light and EM examination. The study advised the avoidance of tetracycline in pregnant women throughout the period of pregnancy

RESUMO

In this work, histological studies were done on transverse sections from thewhole posterior part of human glenoid labra in different chosen prenatal agesand adult age. In eight weeks old fetus, the glenoid labrum was a primitivemesenchymal cellular structure. At 16 weeks old fetus, it becamefibrocellular structure. From 23 weeks old fetus, the migration of cartilagetissue from the articular cartilage of glenoid fossa to the glenoid margin ofthe labrum resulted from the beginning of fibrocartilaginous appearance of the glenoid labrum. At full term, the area near to the glenoidmargin was highly cellular, while the area near to the free margin was morefibrous. In this work, although the glenoid labrum was highly vascularizedthroughout the prenatal life, the adult labrum was not vascularized at all. The collagen fibers were detected early in the glenoid labrum with subsequentincrease in their content during the prenatal life and extended to the adultlife. In contrast, the elastic fibers appeared rare in the full term andadult labra
