RESUMO
This paper in discussing food availability and distribution in the context of primary health care, focuses on the multi-sectoral and community involvement and participation aspects of the primary health care approach. More particularly, the paper reviews the current status of food availability and distribution in the Region with emphasis on the structure and organization of domestic food production, food imports and food marketing. Against this background, it then explores how improvements in food availability and distribution could be achieved through the incorporation of the principle of primary health care into the food supply and distribution systems
