Inhalable oridonin-loaded poly(lactic--glycolic)acid large porous microparticles fortreatment of primary non-small cell lung cancer

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for about 85% of all lung cancers. Traditional chemotherapy for this disease leads to serious side effects. Here we prepared an inhalable oridonin-loaded poly(lactic--glycolic)acid (PLGA) large porous microparticle (LPMP) fortreatment of NSCLC with the emulsion/solvent evaporation/freeze-drying method. The LPMPs were smooth spheres with many internal pores. Despite a geometric diameter of ~10 µm, the aerodynamic diameter of the spheres was only 2.72 µm, leading to highly efficient lung deposition.studies showed that most of oridonin was released after 1 h, whereas the alveolar macrophage uptake of LPMPs occurred after 8 h, so that most of oridonin would enter the surroundings without undergoing phagocytosis. Rat primary NSCLC models were built and administered with saline, oridonin powder, gemcitabine, and oridonin-loaded LPMPsairway, respectively. The LPMPs showed strong anticancer effects. Oridonin showed strong angiogenesis inhibition and apoptosis. Relevant mechanisms are thought to include oridonin-induced mitochondrial dysfunction accompanied by low mitochondrial membrane potentials, downregulation of BCL-2 expressions, upregulation of expressions of BAX, caspase-3 and caspase-9. The oridonin-loaded PLGA LPMPs showed high anti-NSCLC effects after pulmonary delivery. In conclusion, LPMPs are promising dry powder inhalations fortreatment of lung cancer.

Evaluation of subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with severe aortic stenosis by three dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography / 中国医师杂志

Objective To evaluate the role of three dimensional (3D) speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in detection of subclinical left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction in patients with aortic stenosis (AS).Methods The study included 47 patients with AS and 50 age-matched healthy individuals.Conventional echocardiographic parameters were measures,and 3D Speckle tracking imaging of the peak systolic strain was recorded.Results Three-dimensional global longitudinal strain (3D-GLS) were significantly reduced in patients with AS compared to controls (P ＜ 0.01).Three-dimensional global circumferential strain (3D-GCS) were significantly increased (P ＜ 0.05).Three-dimensional global area strain (3D-GAS) and three-dimensional global radial strain (3D-GRS) were similar between two groups (P ＞0.05).Correlation analysis showed that |3D-GLS| was negatively correlated with left ventricular mass index (LVMI) (r =-0.59,P ＜0.05) irrespective of |3D-GAS|,|3D-GCS|,3D-GRS,and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).Conclusions Patients with AS have evidence of subclinical LV systolic dysfunction despite preserved EF％.3D speckle tracking appears is useful in detection of subclinical LV dysfunction in patients with AS.

Our heuristic, interactive, discussion-style teaching model was focused on real clinical cases, by raising questions to discuss strategies for solving problems. Therefore, we can foster clinicians' ability of solving problems, their innovative spirit and team-work spirit so as to meet the requirements of multidisciplinary treatment in new era oncology.

Serum immunology investigation of Cryptosporidium infection among injection drug abusers / 中国血吸虫病防治杂志
