@#Abstract: Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) in Ankang City from 2011 to 2021, so as to provide a scientific basis for the formulation of PTB prevention and control strategy. Methods Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of PTB in Ankang City from 2011 to 2021, and a time series model was established to quantitatively predict the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in 2023. Results The incidence rate in Ankang City showed a significant upward trend from 2011 to 2017, and a more obvious downward trend in 2017-2021 (P<0.05), and the decrease rate in 2021 was 40.36% compared with that in 2017. The proportion of etiological positivity increased from 12.5% in 2014 to over 50.00% after 2019. The incidence season was mainly concentrated in the first quarter, accounting for 28.39% of the annual incidence. High incidence areas were concentrated in the south of Ankang: Langao County, Ziyang County and Zhenping County, with 128.32/100 000, 117.07/100 000 and 110.44/100 000, respectively. Low incidence areas were located in the north of Ankang: Ningshan County, with 60.62/100 000. Farmers and students were the high incidence groups, accounting for 81.80% and 4.97% of the total cases respectively. The incidence of young children was relatively low, but cases were reported every year. The incidence rate of male was 2.39 times that of female. The age of onset increased significantly from 15 years old, and the peak incidence was in the age group of 60-<80 years old, followed by the age group of 45-<60 years old, the average annual incidence was 136.44/100 000 and 104.47/100 000, respectively. The model ARIMA(0,1,1)(0,1,1)12 predicted that the incidence of the disease generally increased from October 2022 to March 2023, then steadily decreased, and increased again in December. Conclusions The incidence of tuberculosis varies in different areas of Ankang City, and males, farmers, students and the elderly are all factors of high incidence of tuberculosis. Therefore, different prevention and control strategies should be adopted according to the characteristics of population in different areas. The number of cases in Ankang City in 2023 showed an overall downward trend, which can provide a reference for the prevention and control of PTB.

This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of heparin-binding protein (HBP) in the cerebrospinal fluid of children with purulent meningitis (PM). This study included 118 children with PM diagnosed at our hospital from January 2018 to January 2020, 110 children with viral meningitis (VM) and 80 children with suspected meningitis who were ruled out by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis during the same period. HBP and white blood cell (WBC) count in the CSF, and inflammatory factors, including C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and procalcitonin (PCT), were measured. Receiver-operator characteristic curves were used to analyze the predictive value of HBP, CRP, PCT, and TNF-α levels in the diagnosis of PM by CSF analysis. HBP levels in the CSF of children with PM were higher, while the CRP and serum PCT and TNF-α levels were elevated in all groups (P<0.05). In addition, HBP levels in the CSF were more accurate for the diagnosis of PM than traditional diagnostic indexes. HBP levels in the CSF can be used as an important reference for early diagnosis of PM.

Objective:To explore the clinical effect of bench treadmill training on functional recovery for patients with severely burnt on lower limbs. Methods:From October, 2016 to December, 2017, 30 patients with severe lower limb burn were divided into control group (n = 15) and observation group (n = 15). The control group accepted routine comprehensive rehabilitation, while the observation group accepted the bench treadmill training in addition. They were assessed with the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Numerical Rating scale (NRS) of pain, Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and 6-minute walking test (6MWT) before and after six weeks of treatement. Results:The scores of SAS, SDS and NRS decreased in both groups (t > 3.636, P < 0.01), and they were less in the observation group than in the control group (t > 2.319, P < 0.05). The score of BBS and distance of 6MWT increased in the observation group compared with those in the control group (t > 2.541, P < 0.05). Conclusion:Early training with bench treadmill may promote the functional recovery for patients with severe lower limbs burns.

Studies have shown that many complex diseases are sex-determined. When conducting genetic association studies on Xchromosome, there are two important epigenetic factors which should be considered simultaneously: X-chromosome inactivation and genomic imprinting. Currently, there have been several association tests accounting for the information on X-chromosome inactivation. However, these tests do not take the imprinting effects into account. In this paper, we propose a novel association test simultaneously incorporating X-chromosome inactivation and imprinting effects based on case–parent trios and control–parent trios for female offspring and case–control data for male offspring, denoted by MLRXCII. Extensive simulation studies are carried out to investigate the type I error rate and the test power of the proposed MLRXCII . Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed test controls the type I error rate well andis more powerful than the existing method when imprinting effects exist. The proposed MLRXCII test is valid and powerful in genetic association studies on X-chromosome for qualitative traits and thus is recommended in practice.

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by inflammation of the synovial membrane, leading to invasion of synovial tissue into the adjacent cartilage matrix with degradation of articular cartilage and bone as a consequence. Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) have been demonstrated to be key molecules involved in bone erosion and bone remodeling. The aim of this study was to explore the potential role of DKK-1 and OPG in different stage of RA.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The protein levels of DKK-1 and OPG were detected by ELISA. The serum samples were collected from 300 patients with RA and 60 healthy controls. Of which, 150 RA patients were defined as early RA (disease duration < or = 1 year), and other 150 RA patients were defined as longlasting RA (disease duration > or = 5 years). At the time of serum sampling, various clinical and laboratory parameters were assessed. The correlations of DKK-1 or OPG and clinical/laboratory parameters were analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The serum level of DKK-1 was elevated in patients with longstanding RA compared with healthy controls, while no significant difference was observed between the two groups in the level of OPG. In contrast, in early RA patients, the circulating OPG was elevated, while there was no significant difference between the two groups in expression of DKK-1. The serum DKK-1 was correlated with Sharp score and DAS28 in longstanding RA patients. In early RA, age was the only parameter that was significantly related to serum OPG.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>There was a cross-talk between DKK-1 and OPG, which involved in bone destruction in RA. In different stage of RA, DKK-1 and OPG may play different roles in the pathogenesis of RA.</p>
