RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the effect of different cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment on the surface chemical and physical properties of zirconia and adhensive behaviour of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) cultured on zirconia disks.@*METHODS@#The zirconia disks were divided into four groups and treated using helium, argon and mixture of argon and oxygen cold atmospheric plasma for 90 s or left untreated. The surface morphology, wettability and chemical elements were analyzed right after treatment. Human gingival fibroblasts were grown from biopsies obtained from a periodontally healthy human subject during periodontal surgery. HGFs were seeded on zirconia disk, and cells density was measured at the time point of 3 hours. Indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) was performed for morphometric examination at the time point of 3 hours.@*RESULTS@#The crystallographic structure of zirconia was analyzed previously and the results suggested that it fitted the properties of zirconium yttrium oxide. After helium, argon and mixture of argon and oxygen cold atmospheric plasma treatment, the surface morphology and roughness of zirconia disks remained the same. The contact angle of zirconia decreased significantly(P<0.05)after CAP treatment: from 68.38° to 17.90°. After different CAP plasmas treatment, the atomic percentage of carbon on the outermost surface of the three groups decreased, as did the surface C/O ratio. The surface C/O ratio of zirconia decreased from 1.07 to 0.33. Fibroblasts density increased on CAP treated disks, especially the ones treated by mixture of argon and oxygen CAP(P<0.05). Cells of the three CAP plasma treatment groups spread better and had more protrusions, as well as larger surficial areas.@*CONCLUSION@#Based on the results of this study after being treated by different kinds of CAP plasmas for 90 s, the surface wettability increased and the elements changed significantly with no changes in the tomography and roughness of the materials. The CAP treatment enhances the adhensive behavior of fibroblasts on zirconia by increasing the oxygen functional groups and promoting the cell density. Wettability of zirconia, an important physicochemical property, has a vital influence on the cell behaviors.

RESUMO

Nipple inversion is a common female disease which can be caused by congenital factors or acquired factors. According to the severity, nipple inversion can be divided into 3 levels. It can not only affect the shape and function of the breast, but also induce serous mastitis. Scholars have conducted many basic and clinical studies to correct the inverted nipple, and the current main methods included surgical and nonsurgical treatment. Due to the individual differences of patients and different surgical operation habits of surgeons, although many methods have been reported, there has been no single operation method which can correct all types of nipple retraction. This paper summarizes the progress of surgical treatment of nipple retraction in recent years, with emphasis on the pros and cons of three surgical methods: dermal flap, traction, minimally invasive and endoscopic fibrous tissue release.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the clinical significance of children bronchial asthma detection by using negative expiratory pressure (NEP) technique. Methods The children with bronchial asthma admitted to Department of Pediatrics of Zhejiang Provincial Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital from March 2016 to March 2018 were enrolled. They were divided into mild group (0-4 scores) and severe group (5-12 scores) according to asthma clinical scoring criteria. The children undergoing physical examination at the same period were served as healthy control group.NEP technique and tidal volume (VT) were detected by the pulmonary function instrument.Respiratory flow-volume curves (F-V curves) without NEP were compared with tidal F-V curves after NEP application to assess expiratory flow limitation (EFL).EFL index was calculated according to the percentage of expiratory VT after EFL and expiratory VT when NEP was not used.Pearson correlation method was used to analyze the relationship between EFL index and severity of bronchial asthma.Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to analyze the value of EFL index in evaluating the severity of bronchial asthma in children. Results A total of 86 children with bronchial asthma were enrolled in the study, and 84 patients completed the test and 2 children withdrew due to other diseases.Finally,84 patients were included in the final analysis, including 41 mild and 43 severe children.Forty-two healthy children in the same period were served as healthy control group. There was no significant difference in gender or age among the groups, and no adverse reactions occurred during the test. The EFL index of children with bronchial asthma was significantly higher than that of the healthy control group, and it was increased with the severity of the disease [mild group compared with healthy control group:(30.60± 6.03)% vs.(6.64 ± 2.37)%,severe group compared with healthy control group:(33.70 ± 5.41)% vs.(6.64 ± 2.37)%,both P < 0.05].There was no significant difference in respiratory rate (RR) or VT between mild group or severe group and healthy control group [RR (times/min):31.45 ± 4.18,32.81 ± 4.07 vs.31.97 ± 4.01,VT (mL/kg):6.29 ± 1.14,5.96 ± 0.90 vs.6.30 ± 1.20,all P > 0.05].It was shown by the correlation analysis that EFL index was positively correlated with the severity of asthma (r =0.836,P =0.000).It was shown by ROC curve analysis that the area under ROC curve (AUC) of EFL index for predicting the severity of bronchial asthma in children was 0.801 [95% confidence interval (95%C/) =0.725-0.878];when the best cut-off value of EFL index was 29.21%,the sensitivity was 85.7%,the specificity was 69.2%,the positive predictive value was 75.1%,and the negative predictive value was 60.2%.Conclusions The EFL index measured by NEP technology was closely related to the severity of bronchial asthma. The higher the EFL index, the more serious of the condition. The severity of bronchial asthma could be early judged by EFL index, which provided a basis for the evaluation and treatment of bronchial asthma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Stem cells exhibit immeasurable application potentials in tissue and organ repair, but stem cell transplantation for the treatment of intrauterine adhesions is still in the initial stage. OBJECTIVE: To review the research progress in the stem cell repair of intrauterine adhesions. METHODS: We retrieved ISI Web of Science database, PubMed database and CNKI database for representative clinical research, basic research and reviews concerning stem cell therapy for intrauterine adhesions. The keywords were "intrauterine adhesion, metrosynizesis, Asherman's syndrome, stem cell, endometrial stem cell, stem cell transplantation" in English and Chinese, respectively. After repetitive studies were excluded, 43 articles were reviewed in the result analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Hysteroscopic transcervical resection of adhesions is an ideal treatment for intrauterine adhesions, but the postoperative recurrence rate of intrauterine adhesions is still high. The human endometrium has high proliferative activity, and the endometrium of a woman of childbearing age may experience growth, differentiation and exfoliation for over 400 times, indicating the existence of endometrial stem cells.Endometrial stem cells have been isolated from the endometrium, successfully cultured in vitro and induced for directional differentiation. However, studies on endometrial stem cell transplantation for intrauterine adhesions are still in its infancy. Basic research on stem cells will facilitate its application to clinical practice.
