RESUMO

Introduction: health literacy is the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information and also the health care services required to make informed-care health related decisions. Low health literacy has a negative impact on care and treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes, although this disease may require lifelong care. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between health literacy and self-care in patients in Bastak with type 2 diabetes

Materials and Methods: this study was a cross-sectional study, conducted in 2015 on 265 patients with type 2 diabetes. Data collection was conducted using the Iranian adult Health Literacy [HELIA] questionnaire and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities [SDSCA]

Results: the results of this study show that 51.7 percent of patients had low levels of health literacy. The average score of self-care one week before study was 53.78+/-15.67. In the present study, significant relationships were found for health literacy with self-care and two of its domains, including physical activity and diet

Conclusion: diabetic patients need more knowledge and a proper attitude to control their disease successfully with appropriate self-care. More attention to the issue of health literacy in health promotion programs is highly recommended

RESUMO

Spiritual well being is one of the fundamental concepts in chronic diseases in which create meaning and purpose in life and considered as an important approach in promoting general health and quality of life. This study was aimed to explore the relationship between spiritual well being and the quality of life among the patients with type 2 diabetes referred to diabetes clinic of Aboureihan specific diseases centre in Bandar Abbas. This descriptive study was carried out on 330 patients between 40-74 years referred to diabetes clinic in year 2012. Information through spiritual health and quality of life questionnaires were collected. Data analysis by describtive statistics and Pearson Correlation was performed. P<0.05 was considered significant. There was a significant relationship between spiritual well being, religious and existential aspect of spiritual well being and aspects of quality of life. The results may intensify the necessity of strengthening of the spiritual health as a factor affecting quality of life in those patients. The key point in a country like Iran with intellectual, cultural and religious beliefs could be useful and necessary in designing caretherapies programs for such patients

RESUMO

In this study, in order to facilitate and accelerate the production of eukaryotic protein alpha 1-antitrypsin [AAT] with correct post-translational modifications, a protein production system based on the transduction of CHO and COS-7 cells using lentiviral vectors was developed. Human AAT cDNA was cloned into a replication- defective lentiviral vector. The transgene AATJred chimer was transferred to CHO and COS-7 cell lines using this vector and its expressions were visualized by fluorescent microscopy. The mRNA expression levels of the AAT genes were determined using Revearse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction [RT-PCR] and its secretion into the medium by both cell types was determined using ELISA. The results show that by employing a lentiviral vector, efficient genetic loading of CHO and COS-7 cells with the AAT gene was achieved. In conclusion, by using a Lentivirus-based gene delivery system, large amounts of recombinant human AAT protein were expressed in both CHO and COS-7 cell lines. This expression system possesses key properties that ensure its application in the delivery of therapeutic genes into mammalian cultured cells

RESUMO

Coronary flow reserve [CFR] is defined as a maximal [hyperemic] to resting ratio of coronary blood flow. It is a physiologic parameter of coronary circulation and depends on the patency of the epicardial coronary arteries and integrity of the microvascular circulation.CFR measurement has many clinical applications including functional assessment of intermediate stenosis, detection of critical stenosis monitoring of coronary flow in the post angioplasty period, assessment of post infarct blood flow and assessment of coronary graft patency. The aim of this study was to measure CFR in the coronary sinus through the transthoracic echocardiographic approach, in patients who were candidate for coronary artery bypass graft surgery [CABG] before and one month after operation. The present study included 19 patients [mean age=56 +/- 9.1] including 15 males and 4 females, admitted for CABG. All patients had a sinus rhythm, normal wall thickness, normal RV systolic pressure, and tricuspid valvular regurgitation equal or less than grade 2. The antegrade phase of coronary flow in the coronary sinus moving into the right atrium was analyzed in two phases [systolic and diastolic]. Each wave was determined considering the peak velocity and velocity time integral [VTI]. The volumetric blood flow in the coronary sinus calculated at the baseline and then in hyperemic phase was used for determination of CFR both before and after CABG. There was a significant increase in the diameter of the coronary sinus after CABG [9.4 +/- 1.2mm] compared with that of before CABG values [8.6 +/- 1.05mm]. Also there was a trend of increasing the diameter in the hyperemic phase before and after CABG. The absolute increase in mean coronary sinus diameter was 0.5 mm before and 1.5 mm after CABG. Coronary flow reserve [CFR] was significantly higher after surgery, despite a significant increase in systolic velocity ratio [hyperemic/baseline] after CABG. This is also true for systolic velocity time integral [VTI] and diastolic VTI ratios, but there was an insignificant increase in diastolic velocity ratio. Our study in accordance with previous studies, denotes that transthoracic measurement of the coronary flow reserve can be used as a feasible and reproducible method to monitor the changes in cardiac perfusion after revascularization
