RESUMO

Cardiospermum halicacabum L. var. microcarpum [Kunth] Blume seeds [Sapindaceae] extracts have been evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity against carrageenan-induced paw oedema in rats. The ethanol as well as water extracts showed potent antipyretic activity. The antipyretic activity of the extracts was found as concentration dependent

RESUMO

H. indicus var. pubescens [Periplocaceae] is widely distributed in southern parts of Tamilnadu, India, which is not much studied and used instead of var. indicus for its therapeutic usage. The present study evaluated the antiulcerogenic property of 50% ethanolic extracts of the roots in animal models as a muco-protective agent. Roots collected during flowering season were found to be more effective than that collected during vegetative period

RESUMO

The present work is aimed at enhancing total beta-carboline alkaloids in young Aerva lanata plants through chloramphenicol and kinetih applications as foliar spray. Chloramphenjcol [120 mg/l] and kinetin [30 mcg/l] showed beneficial effect on total alkaloid and ascorbic acid production in young plants. 'Also, it showed little effect on the production of tannin. The total alkaloid was estimated by precipitation with ammonium reineckate, while tannin and ascorbic acid were determined spectrophotometrically. The total alkaloid increased to 0.827% in root powder as compared with control [0.534%] and it also increased in stem and leaves. The yield of tannin [0.1 66%] in root powder showed very little effect when compared with control [0.148%]. The better yield of ascorbic acid [0.024%] showed in leaves as compared with control [0.018%]. Application of higher concentration of chloramphenicol caused no further increase in total alkaloid production

RESUMO

Stem and root barks of Alangium salvifolium belonging to the family Alangiaceae were screened for their probable helicobactericidal activity. Aqueous extracts [hot and cold] and solvent extracts [acetone, chloroform and methanol] were screened. Among those, chloroform extract was observed to recover bioactive principles from the plant materials effectively. The MIC and MIC were also observed to be significantly low for human Helicobacter pylori [Hp] isolates. Samples drawn during flowering seasons were better than that of vegetative period. So the plant needs to be pursued as promising candidate in H. pylori eradication

RESUMO

Chloramphenicol and kinetin stimulated the production of alkaloids and ascorbic acid in young Celosia plants. Different concentrations of chloramphenicol and kinetin were applied as foliar spray on four weeks old plants. Chloramphenicol [120 mg/l] and kinetin [30 mcg/1] showed beneficial effect on total alkaloid and ascorbic acid production in young plants. The total alkaloid was determined by precipitation with ammonium reineckate; while the ascorbic acid was estimated colorimetrically. The total alkaloid had increased to 0.147% in root powder as compared with control [0.078%] and had also increased in stem and leaves. The better yield of ascorbic acid [0.587%] showed in leaves as compared with control [0.396%]
