Then with a systemic educational plan, all students and their mothers in experimental group were instructed. Data was gathered by demographic questionnaire and Cooper smith's self esteem scale. Questionnaires were completed by students in three phases [before and after training and three months after the end of educational program]. Data were analyzed by parametric tests, independent T test and chi square

Results: There were no significant difference among total mean scores of self concept in pre intervention phase [P=0.416], but, there were significant difference in two groups in post intervention phase and three months after the intervention [P=0.002] and [P<0.001]

Conclusion: Performing systemic educational programs during puberty has a crucial role in young girl's self concept increase

RESUMO

Background and Purpose: Aloe vera has long been used as a medication of many diseases but the research approving its analgesic effects are not many. Since the effect of its ointment on episiotomy pain has been investigated, we intended to determine the effect of aloe vera ointment on the pain intensity of episiotomy among primiparous women

Methods and Materials: This blind randomized clinical trial was conducted on 74 primiparous women, having the inclusion criteria, admitted to Lolagar hospital in Tehran, Iran; the participants were continuously assigned into two groups by random allocation: experimental [using the aloe vera ointment] and control [routine medication]. The experimental group [37 women] consumed Aloe vera ointment 3cc / 60 mg every 8 hours; and the control group [37 women] consumed the hospital routine care [Povidone Iodine] for five days. Data collection instruments were a demographic questionnaire and VAS scale, for recording the pain intensity before application, 4 and 8 hours and 5 days after application in both groups. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS 16 using independent t-test and chisquare

Results: Mean pain score of the experimental and control groups before application of aloe vera ointment were 6.24 +/- 1.57 and 6.02 +/- 1.77 respectively, which reduced to 1.86 +/- 1.45 and 3.97 +/- 2.19 respectively five days after intervention; the difference between the two groups was significant [p<0.01]; however, the pain score four hours after application was not significant

Conclusion: Aloe vera ointment can be used in episiotomy wound care to reduce the pain intensity and the need for pain killers

RESUMO

Bacterial abscesses involving the spinal canal are associated with a high morbidity and mortality. Most frequently, these lesions are found in the epidural, rarely in the subdural spaces. Spinal subdural abscess is rare. The exact incidence of the spinal subdural abscess [SSA] is unknown and the most affected region is the thoraco-lumbar spine. The timing for MRI is very important when the clinician notices these symptoms in the patient. Early diagnosis and emergent treatment is vital to prevent the formation or progression of neurologic deficits. Although the most common bacterial source is Staphylococcus aureus, bacterial sources were proteus and E.coli in the patients. In this report, we presented four patients with SSA in the thoraco lumbar region. Over the last 10 years, four cases of spinal subdural abscess were admitted and treated at Tehran Children Medical Center. All of four cases were under 3 years old and surgically and medical treated. All four patients were received antibiotics for a period of 4-6 weeks and showed remarkable recovery
