RESUMO
Sixteen patients presented with bleeding esophageal varices comprised the material of this study, their age ranged from 20-60 years, their liver biopsy showed mixed cirrhosis and bilharzial periportal fibrosis. Correlation between angiographic, laboratory, endoscopic and clinical findings were done. It is found that after a complete eradication of the gastroesophageal collaterals, there were angiographic evidence of obliteration of these collaterals in 68.7% of cases, and no development of new collaterals in any of them. Also, there were angiographic evidence of improvement in the degree of hepatic perfusion in 50% of cases which was confirmed by laboratory and clinical findings
