RESUMO

A field study has been carried out in Ismailia Governorate, Egypt, during the seasons 96/97 and 97/98. It aimed to determine nitrogen, status of economically important field crops wheat, maize and sugar beet under field conditions using a portable chlorophyll meter. Readings of the chlorophyll meter were proportional to the chlorophyll density as well as nitrogen concentrations in the plant leaves. Mg concentration of wheat leaves showed a non- significant correlation with the N-Tester readings, while iron concentrations were negatively correlated with the apparatus readings. Both Mg and Fe concentrations in maize leaves were negatively correlated with the meter readings. In contrast, Mg and Fe concentrations in sugar beet leaves showed highly significant positive correlations with the N-Tester readings. Thus, the apparatus can be used to predict N-statiis for the three studied crops. More studies are needed to establish predicting of magnesium and iron using the portable meter under field conditions

RESUMO

A POT experiment has been conducted with cotton [var. Giza 75] to study the effect of using several concentrations of different Fe-chelated compounds as foliar application on the growth and nutrient content of cotton plants. Results showed that concentrations exceeding 50 ppm Fe have a negative effect on the growth and mineral content of the plant organs. The chelating agent of a given compound was proved to be essential factor for its efficiency. The best were the compounds containing ligninpolycarboxcylates phenolic acid + sulphate or lignosulphonate followed by those contain EDDHA. The compound containing EDTA was less effective

RESUMO

Thirty human subjects ageing 60-72 years were investigated to study the structural changes which occur in the gastric mucosa with advancing age. Five healthy subjects of young age [27-30 years] were also included as a control group. Gastric biopsies were taken from all cases and multiple specimens were processed for a histological and histochemical study using the routine hematoxylin and eosin stain, succinic dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase enzymes. There was a significant difference in the histological and histochemical examination of the human gastric mucosa of the control and elderly subjects. A disturbed functional state of the gastric mucosa in senescent subjects seemed to be correlated with advancing age

RESUMO

The present work was undertaken to evaluate of endocytotic small intestinal absorption in the schistosomal disease. Hamsters were used and jejunal enterocytes were studied at the ultrastructural level. Fine morphological changes were seen indicating the enhancement of endocytic uptake, which might be due to intra-luminal maldigestion, malfunction and /or other gastrointestinal disorders clearly defined in schistosomiasis

RESUMO

The nature of the biochemical disturbances that causes the alteration in metabolism in chronic renal failure with the consequent multi- system affection constitutes a major problem. The present work examined the enzymatic changes of hepatocytes in uraemia. Twenty patients and ten controls were studied. Liver biopsies were taken and cryostat sections were subjected to a histochemical study. It was found that the activity of succinic dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase were decreased, while an increase in the activity of alpha- esterase hepatic effects was not detected. Nutritional depletion, electrolyte abnormalities and increased lipid peroxidation are of doubtful roles, while altered cytoplasmic composition, fluidity and regulation could be suggested
