RESUMO

A retrospective study of 17 pediatric patients presented with obstructive anuria during a period of 7 years [between June 1984 and June 1991] was carried out. Subjects were 10 boys and 7 girls with a mean age 3.3 years [range from 1 month to 9 years]. The most frequent presentations beside the anuria were renal hydronephrosis and renal pain. The duration of anuria varied from 1 to 9 days with average serum creatinine 7.5 mg% at presentation [range 1 to 12.5mg%]. Renal ultrasonography was so accurate that it confirmed the obstruction and the condition of the contralateral kidneys in all the cases. Urolithiasis was the commonest cause of obstruction [two-thirds of the cases]. Drainage using ureteral catheterization in 3 patients failed. Primary drainage using percutaneous nephrostomy was successful in all the cases including the 3 ureteral catheterizatin failures. After drainage and correction of the uremic status, most of the cases required corrective surgery to relieve the obstructions. Our policy in pediatric patients is the use of percutaneous nephrostomy drainage primarily. It is a simple procedure that reduced the incidence of overall morbidity and mortality

RESUMO

Extending our work on organophosphates of potential biological activated, we have now prepared certain new biphenyl analogues 3b-d of the known insecticide parathion [Ia] [O,O- diethyl-O-p-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate; E 605][5], and the phosphonothionate ester EPN [Ib] [O-ethyl O-p-nitrophenyl benzenephosphonothionate][5] for toxicological evaluation

RESUMO

Vicinal triketones 1 and their monohydrates 2 have received remarkable interest by virtue of their wide applications for analytical and synthetic purposes. Thus, they are used for the-analysis of amino-acids [Strecker-degradation] in a quantitative manner as well as for the detection of peptides, proteins, primary amines and ammonia, particularly, in biological fluids. The methods that described for preparation of triones 1 are, however, indirect and lengthy. Moreover, no common procedure links these methods in one approach which can be generalized for producing these polycarbonyl compounds This along with our growing interest devoted to the chemistry of vicinal triketones and their monohydrates, have prompted us to develop a new simple approach for the production of triones 1 and/or their hydrated form 2. This depends upon the photosensitized oxidation of gemdihaloketones 4 to give the beseeched compounds, directly, and in a high percentage yield

RESUMO

O['] odiethyl -O-[3-chloro-4-methylcoumarinyl-7] thiophosphate[a] [Coumaphos; 1], marketed under the trade names Bayer 21/199R, Asuntol[R], Resitox [R] and Muscatox[R], is a valuable insecticide for the control of ectoparasites of domestic animals because of its low toxicity for fish it acts as an agent for the control of mosquito larvae. Moreover, compound 1 shows marked acaricidal, anthelminitic and nematocidal activities

RESUMO

Post renal [obstructive] anuria is a common urologic emergency in Egypt. In this study, a retrospective analysis of 170 patients admitted with obstructive anuria is presented. The most common cause of obstrcution was stones [62.3%] and ureteral strictures presented 24.7% of the cause. Only 13% of the patients presented with bilateral obstruction and the remaining had single functioning obstructed kidneys. Most of the patients were drained with PCN with success rate of 90%. After drainage and correction of the uremic, half of the patients had corrective surgery for the obstructing factore, one fourth had spontaneous diuresis with of small stones and the remaining fourth had permenant nephrostomy for drainage in view of the poor renal function or the poor cardio-pulmonary status. Our policy is to use primarily the PCN for draingae ast it was observed that it is a simple; procedure that increases the overall cure rate and reduces the overall mobidity and mortality
