RESUMO

This study was carried out on 75 workers in a foundy in Zagazig city, Sharkia governorate and on a control group of 20 subjects in the administration section in the same foundary. The study revealed that there was a higher prevalence of conjunctival pigmentation [40 percent], cojunctival irritation [28 percent], pinguecula [20 percent] and pterygium [33.3 percent] among exposed workers than in their corneal group [5 percent, 15 percent, 10 percent and 10 percent, respectively]. Also, control foreign bodies, corneal opacities and lenticular changes were of a higher prevalence among exposed workers [5.3 percent, 20 percent and 6.7 percent respectively] than in non-exposed subjects [0 percent, 5 percent and 0 percent, respectively]. The duration of exposure is considered as a risk factor in prevalence of ocular hazards

RESUMO

Two groups of primary open angle glaucoma patients, each of 50 patients, were undergone trabeculectomy. In the first group, [59 eyes], traditional trabeculectomy-where the excised internal corneo-scleral block almost reached the edges of the scleral flap-was performed. The second group [68 eyes], were undergone a modified trabeculectomy. Where internal corneo-sclectomy stopped 1 mm short the edgs of the covering scleral flap i.e., leaving a ledge of 1mm. Cases of either group were followed up for 8-10 months for postoperative complications and intraocular pressure [10P] control. It was found that; modified trabeculectomy was associated with a significantly lower incidence of postoperative shallow or flat chamber and their sequences. Both procedures were effective regarding postoperative intra-ocular pressure control with insignificant difference

RESUMO

Different types of conjunctival flaps were performed for 39 cases with resistant corneal ulcerations. Total flaps were 1 for large central corneal ulcers [23 cases], bridge flaps for small central or paracentral ulcers [11 cases] and peripheral flaps for marginal small ulcers [5 cases]. All the cases showed complete healing in 5-10-14 days whatever the cause and duration of resistant ulcers or the time of flap recession

RESUMO

Thirty-eight eyes of 32 patients with recurrent pterygium were included in this study. They were divided into two groups. 18 eyes were treated by simple excision, followed by Beta irradiation [control group]. The remaining 20 eyes were treated by excision and conjunctival autograft transplantation. The cases were followed up for 6 months. The first group gave a recurrence rate of [16%], while cases treated with conjunctival autograft gave a minimal recurrence rate of [5%]. These results were tabulated, illustrated and discussed
