RESUMO

To report and to determine the cause and source of food poisoning which occurred at a Military Training School in Zarqa at July 15[th] 2009, and to characterize Staphylococcal food poisoning. A total of 243 students who developed signs and symptoms of suspected food poisoning at a Military Training School in Zarqa on July 15[th] 2009 were interviewed using a structured special food poisoning questionnaire. Data were transferred to a specified food poisoning attack rate table where the incubation period, attack rates, attributable risks, relative risks, chi square, confidence intervals and p-value were calculated. Stool specimens, food and water samples were collected and analyzed. The data collection, laboratory and environmental sanitation indicate that this food poisoning was caused by Staphylococcus aureus and the incriminated food was the dairy product [Labanah] component of a breakfast meal. This outbreak highlights the public health significance of positive food poisoning outbreaks that may involve a large number of people in a close community

RESUMO

Granulosa cell tumor [GCT] of the adult type is a rare and slow-growing neoplasm of the testis. This tumor may be associated with endocrine manifestations and resemble classic GCT of the ovary morphologically. It has a potential for distant metastases or recurrence late in the clinical course. We report a case of granulosa cell tumor of the testis of adult type in a 48 year old male patient .physical examination revealed scrotal swelling encroaching on the epididymis and testis. Ultrasonography showed a left testicular mass. A left orchidectomy through a left groin incision was performed. Histological findings were consistent with granulosa cell tumor, adult type

RESUMO

To clinically analyze an outbreak of acute conjunctivitis which occurred at a Military Training School in Zarga and to characterize the etiology of the disease on the clinical basis at Prince Hashem Military Hospital [PHMH] in July-August 2007. A total of 59 trainees were interviewed and referred to the ophthalmologic clinic at Prince Hashem Military Hospital [PHMH] during the epidemic of the disease July-August 2007. All cases are males with age range from 18-24 years [mean age 21 years], maximum number of cases seen at two days of onset of symptoms. All 59 had red eye, 89.8% had pain, 86.3%had foreign body sensation and 87.5% had discharge. Bilateral involvement was seen in 73.5% and unilateral involvement in 26.5%, 43% of the total cases had corneal involvement and 20% of the cases had associated fever and periauricular lymphadenopathy. The epidemic of Kerato-conjunctivitis observed at the time of study was viral in origin based on clinical analysis and literature review. Adequate personal hygiene, hand cleanliness and avoiding overcrowding in barracks can minimize the epidemic spread
