RESUMO

Objetivo: Determinar la calidad de vida en pacientes infantes y adultos que recibieron implante coclear (IC). Diseño: Descriptivo. Materiales y métodos: 47 pacientes usuarios de IC con sordera pre y poslingual a quienes se les realizó encuesta basada en Cuestionario Nijmegen (NCIQ) sobre calidad de vida. Resultados: Promedio de edad para la cirugía de IC: 8,2 años en sordera prelingual y de 47años en sordera poslingual. La media de PTA y de ganancia auditiva osquirúrgica en ambos grupos fue similar. Hay mejoría posterior a cirugía de IC e inicio de terapia auditiva principalmente enpacientes con sordera prelingual. Conclusiones: Las preguntas basadas en el NCIQ facilitaron la evaluación de calidad de vida posimplante coclear. El costo-beneficio de la cirugía de IC es positivo para la adquisición de lenguaje y en la relación tanto del entorno familiar como en la vida social, así como en la autoestima y la escolaridad.


Objective: To determine the quality of life in children and adults patients who received cochlear implants (CI). Study Design: Descriptive. Methods: 47 cochlear implants users that have pre-lingual and post-lingual deafness received a Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) on the quality of life. Results: The mean age of the patients at the time of performing the surgery was 8,2 years old forthe pre-lingual deaf group. For the post-lingual deaf group was 47 years old. The tone pure average and the average of auditory gain after surgery were similar in both groups. There were an improvement after the cochlear implant surgery and the beginning of the auditory therapy mainly in the pre-lingual deaf patients. Conclusions: The survey based on the NCIQ make it easier to administer the evaluationof the quality of life post-cochlear implant of these patients. The cost/benefit ratio of the CI surgery is positive in language acquisition as well as in the relation both with the family environment and social life. Also there was an increase in self-esteem and school performance.
