RESUMO
Mini-implantes (MI) são peças em forma de parafusos utilizadas com a finalidade de servir de ancoragem esquelética durante o tratamento ortodôntico. Sua eficácia ainda é objeto de diversos estudos, os quais procuram determinar as variáveis que podem interferir em seu uso.A intenção deste estudo foi investigar o modo como as diversas variáveis inerentes à técnica de ancoragem baseada na utilização de MI interferem na eficiência e estabilidade desse sistema biomecânico. Para isso, utilizou-se um delineamento de revisão não-sistemática da literatura, incluindo artigos publicados nos últimos dez anos qualis A, B ou C internacional. Dentre os fatores levantados como intervenientes no sucesso dos MI como forma de ancoragem destacaram-se:composição, forma, local de inserção e características inerentes ao paciente. No entanto, a perda do MI durante a realização da mecânica ortodôntica, antes da finalização de sua função, é um evento frequente. Esse fenômeno sugere a necessidade de avaliação de uma ampla gama de variáveis durante o planejamento técnico.
Mini-implants (MI) are devices in the form of screws, in order to serve as anchorage during orthodontic treatment. Its effectiveness is still the subject of several studies, which seek to determine the variables that might interfere with its use. This review was intended to investigate how the different variables involved in the anchorage technique based on the use of MI interfere with the efficiency and stability of the biomechanical system. The study design considered a nonsystematic review of the literature including articles published in the last ten years qualis A, B or C. Among the factors considered as stakeholders in the success of MI as a way of anchoring: composition, shape, position and insertion characteristics to the subject. However, the loss of MI during the course of orthodontic mechanics, before the completion of its function, is a frequent event. This phenomenon suggests the need for evaluation of a wide range of variables during the technical planning.
