RESUMO

Objective:To evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of hypersensitivity quantitative fecal immunochemical test (hs-qFIT) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and advanced adenoma.Methods:From July to December 2020, consecutive patients aged 50 to 75 years who underwent colonoscopy in Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, and had the Asia-Pacific colorectal screening score of medium or high risk were enrolled. All patients were requested to complete two hs-qFIT before colonoscopy. The diagnostic efficacy of hs-qFIT for CRC and advanced adenoma were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic curve of hs-qFIT in CRC diagnosis was drawn and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated.Results:A total of 811 patients including 20 (2.5%) cases of CRC, 47 (5.8%) cases of advanced adenoma, 206 (25.4%) cases of non-advanced adenoma, 219 (27.0%) cases of non-adenomatous polyp, 76 (9.4%) cases of other colorectal lesions and 243 (30.0%) cases of non-colorectal lesions were involved. When the fecal hemoglobin cut-off values were 10, 30, 50, 75 and 100 ng/mL, the positive rates of hs-qFIT detection were 17.9% (145/811), 10.9% (88/811), 8.3% (67/811), 7.4% (60/811) and 5.8% (47/811), respectively. When the cut-off value of fecal hemoglobin decreased from 100 ng/mL to 10 ng/mL, the sensitivity of hs-qFIT for CRC diagnosis increased from 90.0% to 100.0%, and the specificity decreased from 96.3% to 84.2%; and the sensitivity of hs-qFIT for the diagnosis of advanced adenoma increased from 19.1% to 66.0%, and the specificity decreased from 95.0% to 85.1%. The AUC of hs-qFIT for the diagnosis of CRC and advanced adenoma were 0.981 (95% confidence interval ( CI) 0.970 to 0.992) and 0.846 (95% CI 0.807 to 0.886), respectively. When the optimal cut-off values were taken, the sensitivity and specificity were 100.0% and 91.2% for the diagnosis of CRC, and 66.0% and 85.3% for the diagnosis of advanced adenoma, respectively. Conclusion:Hs-qFIT can help the early screening of CRC and advanced adenoma.

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of domestic imatinib (made in China) in patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia chronic phase(CML-CP).@*METHODS@#Fifty-seven newly diagnosed CML-CP patients who did not receive any other anti-CML treatment were treated by domestic imatinib 400 mg once a day. The hematological, cytogenetic and molecular reactions and safety were observed and evaluated after 3, 6 and 12 months of treatment.@*RESULTS@#Fifty-six patients were treated for ≥3 and 6 months, among which 50 patients were treated for ≥12 months. After 3 months of treatment, 49 patients underwent hematological examination, 47 patients (95.9%) achieved complete hematological response (CHR), 49 patients underwent cytogenetic examination, 39 patients (79.6%) achieved major cytogenetic response (MCyR), and 12 patients (24.5%) achieved complete cytogenetic response (CCyR). 49 patients underwent the level of BCR-ABL test, including 41 patients (83.7%) with BCR-ABL@*CONCLUSION@#In the real world, Domestics imatinib mesylate is effective and safe in the treatment of newly diagnosed CML-CP patients, but long-term follow-up data are still necessary to verify its long-term efficacy.

RESUMO

COVID-19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread across the globe, posing an enormous threat to public health and safety. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), in combination with Western medicine (WM), has made important and lasting contributions in the battle against COVID-19. In this review, updated clinical effects and potential mechanisms of TCM, presented in newly recognized three distinct phases of the disease, are summarized and discussed. By integrating the available clinical and preclinical evidence, the efficacies and underlying mechanisms of TCM on COVID-19, including the highly recommended three Chinese patent medicines and three Chinese medicine formulas, are described in a panorama. We hope that this comprehensive review not only provides a reference for health care professionals and the public to recognize the significant contributions of TCM for COVID-19, but also serves as an evidence-based in-depth summary and analysis to facilitate understanding the true scientific value of TCM.

OBJECTIVE@#To study the reference ranges of platelet and related parameters within 24 hours after birth in preterm infants with different gestational ages.@*METHODS@#According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a retrospective analysis was performed for the chart review data of 1 070 preterm infants with a gestational age of 23-36 weeks who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from January to December in 2018. The reference ranges of platelet parameters were calculated for the preterm infants within 24 hours after birth.@*RESULTS@#There were no significant differences in platelet count (PLT) and plateletcrit (PCT) among the preterm infants with different gestational ages (P>0.05). The late preterm infants (34-36 weeks; n=667) had significantly lower mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) than the extremely preterm infants (23-27 weeks; n=36) and the early preterm infants (28-33 weeks; n=367) (P0.05). The reference ranges of platelet parameters in preterm infants were calculated based on gestational age. The reference ranges of PLT and PCT were (92-376)×10/L and 0.1%-0.394% respectively, for the preterm infants with a gestational age of 23-36 weeks. The reference ranges of MPV and PDW were 9.208-12.172 fl and 8.390%-16.407% respectively, for the preterm infants with a gestational age of 23-36 weeks; the reference ranges of MPV and PDW were 9.19-11.95 fl and 9.046%-15.116% respectively, for the preterm infants with a gestational age of 34-36 weeks.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The MPV and PDW of preterm infants with different gestational age are different within 24 hours after birth, and it is more helpful for clinical practice to formulate the reference range of MPV and PDW according to gestational age.

Objective: To observe the changes of dysfunctional high density lipoprotein cholesterol (dyHDL) and the intervention effect of Xiangsha Liu Junzitang in rats with spleen deficiency and hyperlipidemia, and reveal the effect and mechanism of Xiangsha Liu Junzitang on dyHDL in rats with spleen-deficiency hyperlipidemia. Method: Seventy-five SPF SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, high fat group, spleen deficiency and high fat group, Xiangsha Liu Junzitang low and high dose groups (5.67, 11.34 g·kg-1). In the spleen deficiency and high fat group, as well as Xiangsha Liu Junzitang low and high dose groups, composite method of improper diet and exhaustive swimming was used for 15 days for modeling. After modeling for 15 days, normal group was fed with basic diet, while the high-fat group, spleen-deficiency and high-fat group, the Xiangsha Liu Junzitang low and high dose groups were fed with high-fat diet. After 12 weeks, the Xiangsha Liu Junzitang low dose and high dose groups received corresponding dosage of drugs, while normal group, high fat group and spleen deficiency high fat group received corresponding volume of normal saline. After 4 weeks, the contents of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol cholesterol (LDL-C), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)were detected by automatic biochemistry analyzer, while D-xylose excretion rate was measured by phloroglucinol method. The morphological changes of liver cells were observed by hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining. The level of PON1, apoA1 and SAA in plasma were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Paraoxonase 1(PON1), apolipoprotein A1 (apoA1) and serum amyloid protein A (SAA) gene expression in rats liver were detected by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR). Result: As compared with normal group, the serum TC, TG, and LDL-C levels were significantly increased in the high-fat group and spleen-deficiency high-fat group (PPPPPPD-xylose excretion rate was significantly decreased in the spleen-deficiency and high-fat group (PPPPPPPPConclusion: The lipid disorder in hyperlipidemia rats was aggravated by the spleen deficiency, but was corrected after intervention with Xiangsha Liu Junzitang. and its mechanism may be related to the regulation of the expression of dyHDL-related genes and protein.

Objective To provide anatomic evidence for chock-block technique used for acromioplasty.Methods Thirty cadaveric specimens of intact shoulder fixed by formaldehyde solution were used for this anatomic study.They were chosen from 15 males and 15 females and from 17 left and 13 right sides.First the specimens were dissected for observation of general morphology of the acromion.According to the Bigliani's classification,the acromions were sorted in morphology as type Ⅰ (flat),type Ⅱ (curved) and type Ⅲ (hooked).The shortest distance from the acromion to the humeral head (A-H) was measured.Then the location of subacromial impingement was observed and the thickness of the anterolateral angle was measured preoperatively.At last,acromioplasty using the chock-block technique was performed in the acromions of types Ⅱ and Ⅲ.Postoperatively,the distance A-H and the thickness of the anterolateral angle were measured again for comparison with the preoperative values.Results According to the Bigliani's classification,7 acromions were type Ⅰ,13 type Ⅱ and 10 type Ⅲ.Subacromial impact occurred only in the anterior acromions of types Ⅱ and Ⅲ.The distance A-H was 0.670 ± 0.035 cm in type Ⅰ acromions,significantly longer than the preoperative values of type Ⅱ (0.506 ±0.029 cm) and type Ⅲ (0.334 ±0.023 cm) (P < 0.05),but showed no significant differences from the postoperative values of type Ⅱ (0.692 ±0.025 cm) and type Ⅲ (0.699 ±0.024 cm) (P > 0.05).The anterolateral angular thickness of type Ⅰ acromions was O.413 ± 0.015 cm,significantly thinner than the preoperative values of type Ⅱ (0.607 ±0.014 cm) and type Ⅲ (0.623 ±0.025 cm) (P < 0.05),but showed no significant differences from the postoperative values of type Ⅱ (0.414±0.035 cm) and type Ⅲ (0.412±0.033 cm) (P> 0.05).Conclusion The chock-block technique used for acromioplasty is effective because it can enlarge the supraspinatus outlet and deter impingement.

Objective To analyze the relevant factors of early warning in emergency patients with high risk of acute sores, explore the application value of transcutaneous oxygen pressure(TcPO2) and transcutaneous carbon dioxide pressure(TcPCO2)monitoring in the early warning of emergency patients with pressure ulcers. Methods This was a study of 186 consecutive emergency patients who were under care in the emergency department. The transcutaneous oxygen/carbon dioxide pressure monitor was used in monitoring the oxygen saturation of the skin of sacrococcygeal region and the chest. Meanwhile,the Braden scale was used in assessing risk factors for pressure ulcers and the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) was applied to evaluate the early prediction of pressure sore with TcPO 2/TcPCO2 monitor. Results Implementing the logistic regression model with six indicators, this research concluded that TcPO2 CV and PO2 were independent risk factors for the development of Braden scale in patients with high risk. The area under the ROC curve showed that TcPO2 CV had a excellent predictive value for the high-risk group and determined its cut-off value to be 20%. Which means patient with both a value of TcPO2CV over 20% and a high risk of Braden scale had a larger possibility of pressure ulcers. Conclusions TcPO2 CV was an independent risk factor for patients under emergency care to develop pressure ulcers. A value of TcPO2CV over 20%indicated a high risk of pressure ulcers.

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the effect of anti-osteoporosis drugs on the curative effect of femoral head replacement in the elderly patients with proximal humerus fracture.@*METHODS@#From November 2012 to June 2016, 38 patients with proximal humeral fractures received humeral head replacement were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to whether the anti-osteoporosis drugs were used after the operation. The treatment group included 19 cases, of which 11 cases were three part fractures, 18 cases were four part fractures, and bone density was(0.58±0.14) g/cm²; the control group involved 19 cases, of which 10 cases were the three part fractures, 9 cases were four part fractures, and bone density was(0.58±0.11) g/cm². Periprosthetic bone mineral density(BMD) was measured at 4, 8, 12, 24 and 48 weeks after operation, and visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to evaluate the pain and Neer score was used to evaluate the function of the shoulder joint.@*RESULTS@#The incisions of all patients were healed with grade A and no complications occurred. Thirty-five patients were followed up for 1 year. The bone density around the prosthesis of treatment group was higher than that of control group, the difference was statistically significant(0.05). The total score and functional score of Neer in the treatment group were better than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(0.05). According to the Neer score, the results of treatment group was excellent in 10 cases, good in 5 cases, fair in 3 cases;in the control group, 3 cases were excellent, 9 cases were good, and 5 cases were fair;the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(<0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Artificial humeral head replacement combined with anti-osteoporosis drugs in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures in elderly patients can effectively improve the bone density around the prosthesis and restore shoulder function. The early clinical effect is satisfactory.

To explore the regularity of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) prescriptions for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases,the core drug groups with common therapeutic effects on cerebrovascular diseases represented by stroke and cardiovascular diseases represented by coronary artery disease were extracted,and their consistency and difference in the treatment of different diseases were analyzed.A total of 388 Chinese patent medicines were collected for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases,cardiovascular diseases and cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.The dominant and recessive patterns of Chinese patent medicines in clinical use were found by "frequency analysis","compatibility analysis" and "network analysis" respectively.According to the findings of the three parts,Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Chuanxiong Rhizoma,Carthami Flos and Astragali Radix have a high frequency of use in the treatment of brain disease,heart disease and both,with frequent combined medication.Data mining confirmed the core drug combinations for the treatment of cerebral and cardiac vascular diseases,so as to reveal the similarities and differences in the drug use of Chinese medicine for these diseases,and provide a basis for the rational use of traditional Chinese medicine in clinical practice.This analysis also defines a new direction for the future development of prescription combinations for different indications of cerebral and cardiac diseases.

Objective@#To investigate the diagnostic value of some antibodies in peritoneal fluid of patients with gastric cancer and malignant epithelioid mesothelioma in serous effusion.@*Methods@#One hundred and eighty-two cases of serous effusion were collected at Jilin Cancer Hospital, from July 2012 to July 2016. The expression of GLUT1, CDX2, Villin, calretinin and WT1 was evaluated using SP immunocytochemical technique in peritoneal fluid samples collected from 98 patients with gastric cancer and 74 patients with reactive mesothelial cells. The expression of GLUT1, calretinin and WT1 was also evaluated in serous effusion from 10 patients with mesothelioma.@*Results@#The sensitivity of GLUT1, CDX2 and Villin in adenocarcinoma cells was 91.8%(90/98), 68.4% (67/98) and 88.8%(87/98), respectively. The specificity was 95.9% (71/74), 100.0%(74/74) and 100.0% (74/74), respectively. The sensitivity of calretinin and WT1 for reactive mesothelium was 93.2% (69/74) and 79.7% (59/74), respectively. The specificity was 96.9% (95/98) and 100.0% (98/98), respectively. The sensitivity of GLUT1, calretinin and WT1 for mesothelioma was 9/10, 9/10 and 7/10. The reactivity of GLUT1, CDX2, Villin, calretinin and WT1 showed a significant difference (P<0.01) between adenocarcinoma cells and reactive mesothelium. The reactivity of GLUT1 showed a significant difference (P<0.01) between mesothelioma and reactive mesothelium.@*Conclusions@#The optimal combination is a panel of GLUT1, CDX2, Villin, calretinin and WT1 for differential diagnosis between adenocarcinoma cells and reactive mesothelium in peritoneal fluid of patients with gastric cancer. Whereas GLUT1, calretinin and WT1 is the best for differential diagnosis between reactive mesothelium and mesothelioma in serous effusions.

Objective To explore the application value of telepathological consultation in helping grassroots hospitals.Methods 578 cases of intraoperative telepathology consultation were reviewed,and the accuracy and the timely rate of diagnosis were calculated.The systematic distribution,benign and malignant distribution,and the distribution difference in different primary hospitals were analyzed,so as to evaluate the popularization value of the intraoperative telepathology consultation.Results The accuracy rate of 578 cases of intraoperative telepathology consultation was 99.83%.The timely rate of consultation in 30min was 96.02%,and most reports could be diagnosed in 2 to 5 mins.The source of tissues involved in consultation were thyroid,breast,ovary/fallopian tube and lung.In all cases,24.39% of the malignant tumors were found.Among the diseases of different systems,the proportion of malignant tumors is the highest in breast diseases,followed by lung,thyroid and ovary.Among the four hospitals with most of the consultations,the rate of malignant tumor in Renmin Hospital of Jianli County was the highest,followed by Renmin Hospital of Yingshan County,Renmin Hospital of Xiaochang County,and Fifth Division Hospital of Xinjiang.Conclusion Intraoperative telepathology consultation can provide accurate and timely expert consultation for grassmots hospitals,avoid the "second operations" of the patients,improve the access of medical treatment for people living in relatively remote areas,solve the shortage of pathologists at the grassroots hospitals,and improve the level of doctors' diagnosis and treatment at the grassroots hospitals,which is worth popularizing and applying in Pathology Department of the grassroots hospitals.

Objective To optimize the flash type extraction ofDanzhuye Granules.Methods With the total flavonoids and extract yield as indices, the orthogonal test was adopted to optimize the extraction times, the ethanol concentration, solid-liquid ratio, and the duration of extraction forDanzhuye Granules.Results The factors that infuenced the extract efficiency from high to low were the extraction times, volume fraction of ethanol, the ratio of liquid to solid, and the extraction time. The optimum extracting condition included that the origin was extrated by the ethanol volume fraction 80% with the material to liquid ratio 30:1, total of 3 times, with each time of 3 minutes. Validation experiments of the potimal condition showed that the extraction of total flavonoids was 29.1 mg/g, and the extract yield was 23.6%.Conclusions The flash type extraction method is suitable for extraction, which provides a new method for the development and utilization ofDanzhuye Granules.

Objective To establish HPLC-DAD method for determination of 2 components in Baqia-sanyu granules.Methods The HPLC system consisted of the Fortis Cortecstm C18 column (4.6 mm× 250 mm, 5 μm), the mobile phase consisted of 0.05%KH2PO4and acetonitrile, gradient elution flow rate was 1.0 ml/min, the column temperature was 30 ℃, and the UV detector was set at 290 nm. Results The linear response range of astilbin and engelitin were 0.002 2-0.044 μg and 0.012 4-0.248 μg(r=0.999 9). The average recovery were 97.0% and 97.8%. RSD were 1.61% and 1.65%. Conclusions The method high sensitive, accurate, repeatable and high specifid. It could be an important method to control the standard of this preparations.

Objective To assess the caregiver's needs of patients with breast cancer and their related factors. Methods By purposive sampling,caregivers of hospitalized patients with breast cancer were recruited and completed the Comprehensive Needs Assessment Tool for Cancer Caregivers(CNAT-C),9 items Patient Health Questionnaire(PHQ-9),Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7)to assess their demographic characteristics,needs,depression and anxiety. Results A total of 82 caregivers completed the questionnaires.The most unmet need was health-care staff,followed by information,hospital facilities and services, practical support, family/social support, health and psychological problems and religious/spiritual support.The domain with the highest prevalence of unmet needs was healthcare staff(69.5%,57/82),followed by information/education(48.8%,40/82).The score of domains of health and psychological problems,hospital facilities and services was(6.42±5.73),(10.52±4.84)points in female caregivers,and (2.84±2.52),(7.41±5.39)points in male caregivers,there was significant difference(t=2.83,2.47,P<0.01 or 0.05). Caregivers with high school or lower education reported higher needs in health staff domain than caregivers with higher education: (19.70 ± 5.72) points vs. (16.77 ± 7.38) points, t=2.02, P=0.046. Caregivers who were unmarried had higher needs in domain of religious/spiritual support than married caregivers:(2.86±2.27)points vs.(1.56±0.18)points,t=2.99,P=0.004.Caregivers who were religious had higher needs in domain of religious/spiritual support than caregivers who were not:(2.63±1.92)points vs. (0.93 ± 0.61) points, t=2.78, P=0.007). Caregivers who were from rural area reported higher needs in domain of practical support than those from city: (6.48 ± 4.82) points vs. (4.19 ± 1.35) points, t=2.00, P=0.049. The total score of caregiver needs was positively correlated with depression (r =0.44, P < 0.01), anxiety(r=0.41,P<0.01),in addition to the medical staff and the other dimensions of depression(r=0.28-0.46, P < 0.05), anxiety (r=0.22-0.51, P < 0.05) were positively correlated. Conclusions The most unmet needs of caregivers of patients with breast cancer were health-care staff, followed by information, and hospital facilities and services. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of amifostine(Amf)on the differentiation of human megakaryocyte cell line-Dami. METHODS Dami cells were treated with Amf 0.01-5.0 mmol · L-1 for 12 d. Dami cells were counted every day for the growth curve:only cells with a diameter>20μm. The platelet demarcation membrane system was observed by transmission electron microscopy. The expression of CD33,CD34,CD41a and DNA ploidy was detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS Amf 0.1-1.0 mmol · L-1 promoted the differentiation of Dami cells ,but inhibited their proliferation at a concentration>1.0 mmol · L-1. When these cells were treated with Amf 1.0 mmol · L-1 for 12 d,the platelet demarcation membrane system was observed,the percentage of cells with a diameter >20 μm was increased by 24.6%(P1.0 mmol·L-1).

Objective To explore the short and long term curative effects of percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopic lithotomy (PTCSL) in the treatment of intrahepatic stone (IHS).Methods 38 IHS patients were enrolled,who were treated with PTCSL between January 2008 and July 2013.Results PTCSL was successfully completed in all the 38 IHS cases.Stone clearance rate was 84.2% and the average episode of stone removal was (2.6 ± 0.9) times.Average diameter of percutaneous transhepatic fistula was (18.4 ± 0.6) F and the average time from percutaneous transhepatic puncture and fistulization to cholangioscopic lithotomy was (7.2 ± 0.7)d.The average operation time was (68 ± 20) min,intraoperative blood loss was (20 ± 13) ml,and hospitalization was (4 ± 2) days.The hepatolith recurrence rate in patients with stones completely removed was 37.5% (12/32),and 1 case developed into biliary cirrhosis.Patients with calculi residual suffered from higher hepatolith recurrence rate of 83.8% (5/6),with biliary cirrhosis found in 1 case.Conclusions PTCSL is safe and effective in treating primary IHS,which is indicated in multiple recurrent IHS especially in after biliary surgery patients.It has the advantages of minimally invasion,less bleeding,less postoperative pain,less complications,and fast postoperative recovery.

Objective To establish a HPLC method for the determination of Hyperoside in Bushen-Yijing wan. Methods The HPLC system consisted of the Agilent HC-C18(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5μm)column was adopted. The mobile phase was consisted of acetonitrile(10)-HK2PO4(90)(0.85 g/L sodium heptanesulfonate,H3PO4 adjusted pH to 4.8), the flow rate was 1.0 ml/min, the column temperature was 30 ℃, and the UV detector was set at 360 nm. Results The linear response range was 3.0~60.0μg/ml(r=0.999 9). The average recovery of hyperoside was 98.2%, and RSD1.53%. Conclusions The method is simple, rapid, accurate and repeatable. It can be applied in determination of Hyperoside in Bushen-Yijing wan.

Methods The HPLC was adopted with Phenomenex LUNA-C18(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5μm)column, and the mobile phase consisted of Acetonitrile(19)-0.005 mol/L Kaliumdihydrogenphosphorate(81). The flow rate was 1.0 ml/min, the column temperature was 30℃ and the UV detector was set at 250 nm. Results The linear response range was 1.83~36.60μg/ml(r=0.9998). The average recovery of spinosin was 98.4%, and RSD1.22%. Conclusion The method was simple, rapid, accurate and repeatable. It can be applied in determination of spinosin in Anshenbao granule.

Bone marrow (BM) and umbilical cord (UC) are the major sources of mesenchymal stem cells for therapeutics. This study was aimed to compare the basic biologic characteristics of bone marrow-derived and umbilical cord derived-mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC and UC-MSC) and their immunosuppressive capability in vitro. The BM-MSC and UC-MSC were cultured and amplified under same culture condition. The growth kinetics, phenotypic characteristics and immunosuppressive effects of UC-MSC were compared with those of BM-MSC.Gene chip was used to compare the genes differentially expressed between UC-MSC and BM-MSC. The results showed that UC-MSC shared most of the characteristics of BM-MSC, including morphology and immunophenotype. UC-MSC could be ready expanded for 30 passages without visible changes. However, BM-MSC grew slowly, and the mean doubling time increased notably after passage 6. Both UC-MSC and BM-MSC could inhibit phytohemagglutinin-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell proliferation, in which BM-MSC mediated more inhibitory effect. Compared with UC-MSC, BM-MSC expressed more genes associated with immune response. Meanwhile, the categories of up-regulated genes in UC-MSC were concentrated in organ development and growth. It is concluded that the higher proliferation capacity, low human leukocyte antigen-ABC expression and immunosuppression make UC-MSC an excellent alternative to BM-MSC for cell therapy. The differences between BM-MSC and UC-MSC gene expressions can be explained by their ontogeny and different microenvironment in origin tissue. These differences can affect their efficacy in different therapeutic applications.
