Actualización del diagnóstico de la neumoní­a adquirida en la comunidad / Updating of the diagnosis of the community acquired pneumonia

Se revisaron numerosos documentos publicados sobre el diagnóstico de la neumonía adquirida en la comunidad, con vistas a su actualización, sobre todo respecto a las características clí­nicas de esa inflamación aguda del parénquima en los ancianos, que les diferencia de otros adultos. En el artí­culo se aborda no solo la patogénesis de esa infección extrahospitalaria, sino lo relacionado con diversos métodos para confirmar su existencia, valorar el estado general de quienes la padecen y decidir la mejor conducta terapéutica en cada caso.

Several published documents on the diagnosis of the pneumonia acquired in the community were reviewed, for their updating, mainly regarding the clinical characteristics of that acute inflammation of parenchyma in the aged people that differentiate them from other adults. In the work not only the pathogenesis of that community acquired infection is discussed but also what is related to diverse methods to confirm its occurrence, to value the general state of those who suffer from it and to decide the best therapeutic behavior in each case.
