Syndromes associated with labiopalatine clefting: A report of three cases.

Clefts of the lip and palate are a common craniofacial anomaly, The etiology is thought to be multifactorial, with both genetic and environmental factors playing a role. Because of the frequent manifestation of cleft lip and palate in association with some syndromes, it is essential that a detailed examination of these patients be carried out. This facilitates early formulation of preventive and treatment advice and aids in overcoming gross deformities in the early stages of development. In this paper, we review three such patients who presented with cleft lip and palate in association with a syndrome.

Multicystic mesothelioma of the peritoneum.

Multicystic mesothelioma is an uncommon lesion presenting as an abdominal mass. We report a 40-year-old woman presenting with recurrent intra-abdominal lump. She had undergone abdominal surgery thrice before. The lump at this presentation was partially excised surgically; histology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis.

Significance of serum ferritin and lactate dehydrogenase in benign and malignant disease of breast.

Serum ferritin (SF) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was estimated in 117 patients presenting with a breast lump and in 40 controls. Both pre and post treatment values were determined. Both the values were significantly higher in breast malignancies (p = 0.00) and also corresponded with the clinical stage and bulk of the tumour. The fall in post treatment values was proportional to the response to therapy. Persistent rise in values in the post treatment period was indicative of local recurrence of metastasis.
