RESUMO

For twelve completely edentulous patients, a conventional dentures, dentures lined with soft liner and an occlusal reactive dentures were made. The muscle activity of superficial masseter and anterior temporalis was recorded during maximum clenching and chewing of soft, hard and fibrous food after wearing the dentures for a certain period. The results indicated that the dentures lined with soft liners was the most reliable types as regards muscle activity, masticatory efficiency and patient's acceptance

RESUMO

Twenty male patients having two m and ibular canines were selected and an overdenture, an interim tooth-attached denture and a complete denture were constructed for each patient in this study. Clinical measurements of the activity of masticatory muscles, bite force strength and chewing efficiency were performed immediately at the time of denture insertion and six months after wearing the tested dentures. Comparing the results of the three types of the tested dentures indicated that there were increases in masticatory performance after six months of wearing the different dentures. The highest value of masticatory performance was in the overdenture and the lowest value was in the conventional complete dentures and interim tooth attached denture had intermediate value

RESUMO

A clinical study was carried out to compare between the effect of interim tooth-attached denture and overdenture on the two m and ibular canines concerning their periodontium. Twenty male patients having two m and ibular canines were selected for this study. For each patient interim denture and overdenture were constructed. All clinical measurements were performed at the time of denture insertion and six months after wearing the denture. The results showed that the tooth mobility, depth of pocket, gingival crevicular fluid and the resorption of alveolar bone crest mesial and distal to the abutments were significantly increased after six months of wearing interim denture and markedly decreased after wearing the overdenture for the same period of time
