RESUMO
To evaluate different regimens used in transrectal [TRUS] guided biopsy and to identify the optimal [TRUS] biopsy regimen, a prospective study included 80 consequent men undergoing biopsy either because of an elevated PSA> 4 ng/ml and/or abnormal digital rectal examination. Biopsies yielded 34 patients with prostate cancer giving a positive biopsy rate of 42.5%. Traditional sextant biopsy diagnosed 30 patients [88.2%]out of 34 patients with prostate cancer, while laterally directed biopsies detected 32patients [94%]. Positive transitional biopsy was positive in only two patients. No single case of prostate cancer was diagnosed only by transitional zone biopsies. The highest detection rate among traditional sextant biopsy sites were at the apex [88%] while the lowest were at the base [67.4%]. None of patients developed major complications. A sextant biopsy, far laterally oriented, regimen is the optimum transrectal biopsy regimen for detection of prostate cancer

Cesarean section was performed on ten at term pregnant New Zealand white rabbits to compare the macroscopic and microscopic reaction to two types of suture material; polyglactine [Vicryle] and chromic catgut and two types of closure techniques; continuous and locked. In each uterine horn two incisions were made. Each incision was closed according to predetermined method by chromic catgut or Vicryle suture using either continuous or locked technique. After 40 days the animal was sacrificed. Adhesion score was given for each uterine horn. Representative sections from suture site were obtained for histologic evaluation. Microscopically chromic catgut elicited a greater degree of adhesions than Vicryle. Microscopically Vicryle, elicited a lower degree of chronic inflammatory reaction. There was no difference in tissue response betweeen continuous and locked technique. The new synthetic absorbable suture [Vicryle] is an excellent potential alternative to reduce the incidence of post-operative morbidity

The present study was carried out on 120 rats to evaluate the role played by commercial bee honey in promoting wound healing as compared to madecassol and solcoseryl. Measurements of residual bare are left at the end of 5, 10 and 15 days following the surgical excision of full thinkness circular 12 mm piece of nape skin showed a reduction by 29%, 10.3% and 17% respectively, as a result of specific healing promoting action of honey. Reduction in wounds of the other groups was less consistent. Honey is cheap, accessible and a simple remedy for wound healing and as nutritions biological product it can be efficient under wide range of wound conditions
