RESUMO

To determine the feasibility of surgical procedures performed as 'day care cases' and their complications. An observational prospective study was conducted in the Department of surgery unit-Il, People' Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah from January 2002 to December 2007. A total of 1440 patients had undergone day care surgery During a period of 05 years. Surgery was carried out under local anaesthesia, local anaesthesia and sedation, regional Anaesthesia and general anaesthesia in children. Excision of skin and subcutaneous lesions were the commonest procedures performed [40%]. Complications Were observed of less significant. The hospitalization rate was [4%], which was unplanned. Significant number of elective procedures, minor and medium, can be performed as 'day care cases'. This does reduce the hospital admission burden

RESUMO

Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of mortality in the trauma victims. Massive bleeding after traumatic injury is a result of surgical and coagulopathic bleeding. We describe a case of gun shot injury brought to the hospital in a collapsed state because of massive blood loss in the abdominal cavity. Surgical intervention secured the surgical bleeding but coagulopathic bleeding continued which was controlled with Recombinant activated factor VII [rFVIIa]. Guidelines of the use of factor VII in trauma are presented

RESUMO

Forty Patients of suprapubic and retropubic prostatectomy each have been evaluated. There was no significant difference in the mean age of both these groups. The presenting symptoms and the incidence of associated diseases was also compatible. The total amount of blood used was slightly more in retropubic group. The complication rate was more in suprapubic group as wound infection and suprapubic urinary leakage was commonly seen in these patients. The management of the patients with retropubic group was simple and easier due to short duration of bladder irrigation and early removal of urethral catheter
