lumbar facet arthrosis syndrome

This study is to describe the lumbar facet syndrome in which the disabling symptoms are associated with normal or near normal plain radiographs. Also the results of 18 patients who had local spinal fusion, because of their symptoms, were shown. The pathological changes of the excised facet joint showed the same changes seen in chondromalacia patellae and in osteoarthritis of the large joints. Facet arthrosis may be a relatively important cause of intractable back pain in young and middle aged adults

Results of Wilson's osteotomy in treatment of hallus valgus

Forty five patients with 55 hallux valgus deformities were treated surgically by Wilson's oteotomy. The age of the patients varied between 18 and 46 years with the average of 30 years. There were 10 males and 35 females. The follow-up period ranged between 20 months and 4 years with the average of 33 months. The osteotomy was done and below knee slipper plaster cast was applied for 6 to 8 weeks. Internal fixation with a K. wire or a stainless steel was used only in 4 cases. The results of Wilson's osteotomy were satisfactory. Pain was completely relieved in 41 cases [80.4%]. Shoe fit and functional disability were improved in most of the patients. Cosmetic appearance was improved in 45 cases [81.8%]. No reported cases with nonuninon, avascular necrosis of metatarsal head or recurrence of deformity. Wilson's osteotomy is an advisable operation for correction of hallux valgus in different age groups because it is a simple procedure and gives predictable satisfactory results
