Improvement of high dependency performance

In the general surgical wards at the Royal Hospital, we have started to improve the quality of post-operative care for our patients by creating a high dependency area. The aim has been to reduce the need for admission to the intensive care unit of patients undergoing major surgery. The physical requirement and the operational policies for a high dependency unit are described in this paper. Further studies on the outcome from applying this policy will come out late; for the time being we hope this will help as a benchmark and source of information to other hospital in the Sultanate aspiring to set high dependency areas
