RESUMO
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal de 790 pacientes con quemaduras accidentales, atendidos en el Servicio de Caumatología del Hospital General Docente Orlando Pantoja Tamayo del municipio de Contramaestre, en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, durante el 2008. Entre los principales resultados sobresalieron por su primacía: el sexo femenino, la procedencia urbana y el grupo etario de 15 a 25 años. Los estudiantes resultaron ser los más afectados y los factores causales predominantes fueron los líquidos hirvientes, seguidos por el metal caliente y la fricción. Se recomendó diseñar estrategias individuales, familiares y comunitarias para disminuir la ocurrencia de estos accidentes.
A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 790 patients with accidental burnings assisted in the Caumatology Service of Orlando Pantoja Tamayo Teaching General Hospital in Contramaestre municipality was carried out, in Santiago de Cuba in 2008. Among the main results standed out by their primacy: female sex, urban origin and the age group from 15 to 25 years. The students were the most affected and the predominant causal factors were the scalding fluids burns followed by the hot metal burns and brush burns. It was recommended to design individual, familiar and communitary strategies to decrease the occurrence of these accidents.
