RESUMO

The present study was carried out on 120 rats to evaluate the role played by commercial bee honey in promoting wound healing as compared to madecassol and solcoseryl. Measurements of residual bare are left at the end of 5, 10 and 15 days following the surgical excision of full thinkness circular 12 mm piece of nape skin showed a reduction by 29%, 10.3% and 17% respectively, as a result of specific healing promoting action of honey. Reduction in wounds of the other groups was less consistent. Honey is cheap, accessible and a simple remedy for wound healing and as nutritions biological product it can be efficient under wide range of wound conditions
