OBJECTIVE: To find out level of awareness about coronary heart disease in people attending Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore. Accident and Emergency department. DATA SOURCE: Patients attending emergency department of Shaikh Zayed Hospital with pain in the chest. DESIGN OF STUDY: Prospective study period June 1987 to June 1988. SETTING: Accident and Emergency department of Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 115 patient with chest pain 102 [88.7%] had angina, 6 [5.2%] had presents with chest pain. They were investigated by History, Physical, examination, ECG, Chest X Ray P.A View and cardiac enzymes test. Out of 115 patients muscaloskeletal chest pain 5 [4.4%] has pleuratic chest pain 1 [9%] had only anxiety and one patient of early Hepatic encephalopathy also complained of chest pain. This study showed very good public awareness about coronary heart disease in people attending Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore whether similar trend is found across the rural population of our country remain to be seen a study with wider sample population will help
