RESUMO

This case study describe the application of a collaborative approach known as stress inoculation developed by Raymond W. IMovaco for the treatment of uncontrolled anger. The case of Mr X, a 34 year old married man, referred to Psychology Department of Roscommon Mental Health Services, National University of Ireland was selected for this study. A single case experimental design [AB] was adopted. A comprehensive psychological assessment based on dinical interview and results of self-report instruments led to a cognitive-behavioural conceptualization of uncontrolled anger of the client. The assessment excluded other psychological issues through the invalidation of hypotheses derived from the investigation and confirmed the hypothesis of uncontrolled anger. Stress inoculation strategy was delivered in individual and group sessions to Mr. X in a structured, prescriptive and didactic manner. The details concerning the course of treatment implication of the case are presented in discussion section of this paper

RESUMO

The present study is designed to investigate the impact of three different types of short term memory models on serial recall. It also aims to see the impact of these different memory models on different levels of neurological functioning. Fifty .four demented patients were selected from Khyber Teaching Hospital, Lady Reading Hospital and Mental hospital Peshawar, Pakistan. Mini Mental State Examination was used for screening as well as for measuring the intensity of dementia. On the basis of these scores, patients were bifurcated into two experimental groups of an equal number portraying severe dementia and moderate dementia. The control group [n=27] was selected from the normal population having no neurological dysfunction, and was matched on the basis of age, education and socioeconomic status. In order to explore the difference among the groups t-test was used. Results indicated a significant difference among the groups, which subsequently supports the hypothesis framed for this study

RESUMO

The current study aims to explore underlying personality characteristics of addicts and non-addicts examined by the Rorschach Inkblot test to differentiate between the two groups. 25 addicts were randomly selected and matched with an equal number of non-addicts. The subjects were contacted in Drug Treatment Centres, Hayat Shaheed Teaching Hospital, Govt Lady Reading Hospital and Dost Welfare Foundation [NGO], Peshawar, Pakistan. A semi-structured interview was used for the collection of demographics and drug related information. Rorschach Inkblot test was administered on the subjects and their responses for each card were recorded in their protocols and scored. A descriptive analysis was carried out for the Rorschach findings and tabulated. The results indicated that the addicts showed distinctive underlying personality characteristics compared to their counterparts. It is concluded that these personality aspects should be considered in the formulation of and during the course of treatment. It recommends a treatment strategy based on operant conditioning to avoid highly cognitive demand treatment strategy at the initial phase to minimize relapse
