RESUMO

Indonesia is a tropical area with high rainfall, the area on land is connected by around 472 large and small rivers that flow into the sea. The estuary area is the meeting area of ??rivers or fresh water streams with the ocean. Transportation of organic matter, minerals and sediments from upstream to the estuary and from the sea containing minerals, hence estuarine waters are more fertile than other areas. In addition, estuary areas are important habitats for several types of marine and freshwater organisms to fulfill their life cycles, which are used as spawning, foraging, and nursery grounds. This study aimed to determine the total organic contents, total Nitrogen, and Phosphorus in the estuary waters of Maros as a source of brackish water for fish pond aquaculture in Maros Regency. The research was conducted in the estuary waters of Maros for three months from September to November 2020. Sampling was conducted four times with an interval of once every 15 days. Sampling was carried out at five stations based on water movements to the estuary, station A was located at the seawater, station B was located in the pond wastewater locations, station C was water sources from residential waste, station D was located in the river, and station E was the estuarine water. The results showed that the dominant water quality parameters affecting estuarine water quality were salinity, total organic matter, nitrogen content, either in the form of ammonia, nitrate, or nitrite, and phosphorus content, especially phosphate. Water entering the estuary has an impact on high concentrations of total organic matter, increased concentrations of Total N, and phosphorus. The results of water quality analysis in estuaries showed that salinity, organic matter, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, and phosphate exceed the standard threshold for water quality standards for fish pond aquaculture. Thus, the waters of the Maros estuary are not suitable for aquaculture, especially for the 5 observed stations (A, B, C, D and E).

RESUMO

@#A coal mining industry typically applies a 24-hours working time, which enforces some workers to stay conscious during night shift, opposing human body's biological clock. This study aims to analyse the level of fatigue experienced by high dump truck operators (HD operators) in a coal mining site in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This study utilizes primary data which obtained from distributing Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) survey to all HD operators and secondary data (for Fatigue Likelihood Scoring -FLS) which consists of HD operators’ working schedule that currently applied in the company. Results obtained is analyzed using Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) framework which combines FLS classification and Dawson-McCulloch’s model of fatigue risk trajectory. This study reveals that based on IFRC survey, HD operators experienced low/mild fatigue due to insignificant influence of fatigue-related factors contained in the survey. However, consideration for improvement is in need since the resultof fatigue for night shift operators is close to moderate level. In addition, based on FLS, the level of fatigue indicates that HD operators experienced excessive working hours, in which in FRMS graph classified as fatigue-related errors. Thus, this studyproposes several strategies as the hazard control mechanism: (1) providing optimum resting time, (2) equipping operators with audio music that lead to positive energy and increasing work focus, and (3) adding afternoon shift to balance the working hours.

RESUMO

@# Introduction: Milkfish is a potential source of animal nutrition, especially for supplying human protein needs. In the present paper, we provide complete data on nutrient content of milkfish that can be used as a reference for diet formulation and for the further processing of milkfish. Methods: Proximate analysis, amino acid and fatty acid composition, and vitamin and mineral content of milkfish were determined. Results: The results showed that milkfish contained high concentration of protein (24.18%) and high proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids as oleic acid (32.11%). The amino acid found in the highest concentration was glutamic acid (1.28%). The macro-minerals in the milkfish were calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na) and potassium (K). Among the micro-minerals present were iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn), and the main vitamins present include A, B1 and B12. Conclusion: Based on their protein content, milkfish may be classified as a source of high protein. Glutamic acid which is the highest amino acid in milkfish as well as fatty acid content of oleic acid makes milkfish a healthful fish.
