RESUMO

Scimitar syndrome is a very rare and variable congenital cardio-pulmonary disorder characterized by an anomalous pulmonary venous connection. It can present in the neonatal period as well as later in life. We report two cases of anomalous pulmonary venous connection that presented at different ages. The first case was a four-week-old female child who presented with multiple serious chest problems. The second case was a twenty-two- year-old adult male patient, discovered incidentally by screening during a pre-employment chest X-ray examination. Both cases were accurately diagnosed by multi-detector computed tomography [MDCT] imaging modality

RESUMO

Most primary penile malignancies are squamous cell carcinoma [SCC] and occur most often during the 6[th] and 7[th] decades of life. Uncircumcised men are more often affected, probably because of the chronic irritative effect of smegma. An association between human papilloma viruses 16 and 18 and SCC of the penis has also been reported. We describe a case of a 43-year-old uncircumcised Asian male patient who presented with an ulcerating penile mass. MRI images were helpful in making a preoperative diagnosis of penile cancer. MR imaging can play an important role in the evaluation of a penile mass

RESUMO

Mullerian duct anomalies [MDAs] occur in 0.1-3% of women. They develop from coelomic epithelium and form the definitive uterovaginal canal by lateral fusion. Different degrees of failure of this fusion results in a spectrum of uterine anomalies. We report a case of obstructed uterus didelphys with left transverse vaginal septum, ipsilateral endometriotic cyst and renal agenesis with associated spina bifida occculta of the first sacral segment. Skeletal or spinal anomalies occur in 12% of cases of mullerian agenesis, but no such association of uterus didelphys with spina bifida occulta or any skeletal anomaly has been previously mentioned in literature. The diagnosis is usually made after menarche, but its rarity and variable clinical features may contribute to a diagnostic delay for years after menarche. The importance of MRI in detecting and determining surgically correctable forms of MDAs due to its good tissue characterization and multiplanar imaging is stressed

RESUMO

Appendicular mucocele by definition is a cystic dilatation of the appendiceal lumen by mucin accumulation. This is a rare lesion; its prevalence in appendectomy specimens being only 0.2 - 0.3%. It may be an outcome of various processes. Most important from the surgical point of view is the mucocele caused by mucinous cystadenoma and cystadenocarcinoma. Less commonly it could be due to appendicolith, carcinoid etc. It is known to be associated with pseudomyxoma peritonei resulting from a rupture. It is therefore important to identify the disease process preoperatively and to plan a careful resection. We report here one case with surgical and histopathological confirmation

RESUMO

To evaluate the benefits, harm and cost of pre - employment chest X-ray screening in the young asymptomatic Kuwaiti population. Since the use of chest X-ray in pre-employment examinations for an asymptomatic population without any occupational respiratory risk is not recommended, the decision to conduct a chest X-ray should be based on indications
