RESUMO

A series of some new acetylated S-glycosides of pyridine-2-thiones, including D-glucose, D-galactose, D-xylose and L-arabinose derivatives were synthesized. Oxidation of some formed S- glycosides derivatives with H[2]O[2] afforded the corresponding sulphones. Preliminary pharmacological screening of some obtained compounds showed significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties

RESUMO

Screening for CIN in attendants of a Yemeni Hospital. Prospective and descriptive study. Al Sabeen Maternity Hospital, Sana'a, Yemen. Patients: Out of 13, 521 attendants, 316 were in the high-risk group for CIN and cancer cervix. They were the subjects of this study. Intervention: Cervico-vaginal smear, including endocervical sampling, colposcopy and directed biopsy for histopathology, were done to all patients included in this study. Atypical smear was found in 58 cases, but only 16 of them proved to have CIN I or CIN I - II. Colposcopy showed abnormal findings in 113 cases including all of the 28 cases of pathologically - proved CIN - cases. Invasive cancer cervix was found in 3/13, 521 = 22.18/100.000 women. This might be an overestimation as the hospital is the largest referral hospitals in Sana'a-High-risk factors include early age at marriage, high parity. Illiteracy and lower socio - economic status. Khat-chewing was not found to be a risk factor in this concern. The need for screening of hospital attendants for CIN is valid, but periodic checking for this lesion in the whole population is not cost - effective.

RESUMO

Over the past decade there was a marked improvement in the perinatal mortality. This has been achieved by increase knowledge and identification of those conditions which place mother and fetus at risk and by modern methods of monitoring maternal and fetal well being during pregnancy. Of equal importance has been advances made in sophisticated methods of intensive and special care of babies by neonatologist

RESUMO

Plasma fibronectin level was determined by radial immunodiffusion technique in 60 patients in labor. 20 of them were normal pregnant women as a control group, 15 patients as a mild preeclampsia, 15 patients with severe preeclampsia and 10 patients having eclampsia. The mean values of plasma fibronectin in mild, severe preeclampsia and eclampsia were significantly higher than that of the control group in both maternal and cord blood plasma. The increased fibronectin levels were considered to be the best predictor and highly sensitive test for preeclampsia

RESUMO

40 patients with tibial plateau fractures were presented in this work. All these fractures were treated by open reduction and internal fixation. The cases were followed up for an average period of one year and the results were assessed using a numerical score system. Excellent results were obtained in 27 cases [67.5%] of this series, good results in 9 cases [22.5%], fair in 2 cases [5%], and poor results in 2 cases [5%] of this series. Open reduction and internal fixation can be an ideal solve for tibial plateau fractures. Accurate anatomical reduction, stable internal fixation and early knee mobilization are achieved

RESUMO

Fifteen cases with fresh unstable segmental tibial fractures were managed by closed reduction using image intensifier and fixation by closed Rush nails. The average age in this series was twenty nine years old. Road traffic accidents predominated as the causative trauma. All fractures were closed except in two cases were open grade I. All the cases were operated upon on the day of admission or next day, except those with open grade I, operated upon ten days after admission. A proposed numerical scoring system was used in the final assessment of the results. Accordingly, eight fractures [53.3%] graded as excellent, four fractures [26.7%] graded as good and three fractures [20%] graded as fair. All fractures united in average period of sixteen weeks, except three of them showed delayed union. The use of closed non-reamed nailing is beneficial in the primary stabilization of unstable tibial fracture and this method adheres to the principles of conservative treatment, but at the same time secures the initial reduction

RESUMO

Sixteen cases of congenital dislocation of hip joint with an age range between 9 months and 6 years at the time of presentation were operatively treated by open reduction combined with Salter pelvic osteotomy in one stage, to be followed 3 - 4 weeks later by varus derotation femoral osteotomy. The patients were followed up to 4 years after surgery and the results were all satisfactory. In all cases the joint was well reduced except in one case in which concentric reduction and perfect containment could not be achieved. No cases of avascular necrosis or head collapse were recorded. The range of movements was almost full in all directions apart from limitation of the last degrees of abduction and external rotation

RESUMO

Granulocytic sarcomas may develop during the course of, or as a presenting sign of, myelogenous leukemia. Rarely, however, an extramedullary neoplasm composed of poorly differentiated granulocytic cells occurs in patients without peripheral blood or bone marrow evidence of leukemia. We encountered two cases of granulocytic sarcoma [chloroma] of bone with negative blood and bone marrow finding. Before and after biopsy taking we were confused about the diagnosis and we had to review the literature. The aim of this work is to put this lesion in focus, so that orthopaedic surgeons may not be confused on facing such lesion

RESUMO

Sixty two cases of fracture of the lateral condyle of the humerus were reviewed. Children between 5 and 10 years old were commonly affected with an average of 6.5 years. A fall on the outstretched hand with the elbow in extension was responsible for the fracture in 76.2% of the cases. From the 62 cases, only 42 cases were able to attend the last follow up. Evaluation of the results of internal fixation by different methods showed that: Rigid internal fixation by a cortical screw gave the best results. It gave 90.9% good result which was found statistically significant, compared with other methods of fixation
