RESUMO
The farmers of Visakhapatnam district were in a great need of best performing and high yielding tomato variety as the existing varieties are less yielders and highly succumb to pests and diseases. An On-Farm Trial (OFT) for three consecutive years (2020-21, 2021-22) was conducted by ICAR- ANGRAU, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kondempudi directly in the farmers’ fields of five selected villages viz. Bangurumeta, Adduru, Thotakurapalem, Pottidorapalem, Jaithavaram and Chedikada in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh to evaluate the performance of two very promising tomato hybrids viz. Arka Abhed and Arka Samrat with regard to yield and economic analysis vis a vis the farmers’ practice variety Laxmi. A total of twenty-five farmers actively participated in the OFT covering an area of 7.5 acres. As regards fruit yield, the tomato hybrid Arka Abhed proved to be the best followed by Arka Samrat and Laxmi hybrid for all the three years of the study with fruit yields of 587.32, 569.13 and 409.14 q/ha, respectively. During the years of the trial, the fruit yields of Arka Abhed and Arka Samrat improved from 27.44 to 30.33% and 24.57 to 28.11%, respectively. Average cost-benefit ratios for three years for Arka Abhed, Arka Samrat and Laxmi hybrid were 1:2.30, 1:2.16 and 1:1.58, respectively. The Extension gap was between 111.18 to 183.86 and 129.08 to 202.83 q/ha for Arka Samrat and Arka Abhed, respectively. Results on Technology Index viz. 15.25, 19.47 and 28.83% for Laxmi (farmers’ practice), Arka Abhed and Arka Samrat, respectively, revealed that for both the tomato hybrids, there is viability of the demonstrated technology in the area of the OFT viz. Visakhapatnam district and the surrounding areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
RESUMO
The survey was conducted from June 2022 to January 2023 to study the impact of Agro meteorology Advisory Services and to know the increases of production of cotton crops concerning the effect of weather parameters in selected villages under the DAMU project in NTR district, Andhra Pradesh. District Agromet Units (DAMU) which was established in Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s by Andhra Pradesh cooperative program of India Meteorology Department and Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Main theme of DAMU is to provide timely location specific Agro-met advisories to the farmers at the sub divisional and district level. The agro meteorology advisory services were provided weekly twice among the sub divisions (Tuesday and Friday) and disseminated to farmers by including cotton growers using Whats App, emails and other print media. The impact assessment was based on feedback to come at significant illation in terms of using of Agro meteorology Advisory Service (AAS) by farmers. The assessment study revealed that the farmers who adopted agro advisory services on real-time basis obtained 18 % higher net return in cotton compared to Non-AAS farmers which were benefited by forecasting of rainfall for timely agricultural operations, the recommended dose of fertilizers, and efficient use of pesticides majors in a required support manner during different crop growth stages were advised in bi-weekly bulletins. AAS farmers benefited by timely application of insecticides and fertilizers, timely accurate weather forecasting and timely agricultural operations to gain more yield in cotton crop as compared to Non-AAS farmers. AAS might be used to be helpful to the farmers in managing and changing weather, finally decreased input cost in agriculture and acquiring cost-effective agricultural production by adopting of weather-based Agromet Advisory.
RESUMO
Introduction: With the current practice of routine Serum PSA examination, there arises a diagnostic dilemma with regard totheir further evaluation and treatment.Aim: The aim is to study the incidence of cancer (CA) prostate in cases with elevated Serum PSA.Methodology: We studied 50 men aged between 50 and 80 years with elevations in Serum PSA (total PSA) after certainexclusion criteria, these cases are given a course of antibiotics for 6 weeks and repeat Serum PSA levels obtained. In thosewith persistent elevation in Serum PSA above 4 ng/ml, transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy was done. Results: In our study population, 36.6% of cases with persistent PSA elevation were proven positive for malignancy by biopsy. Conclusion: A fall in Serum PSA following a course of antibiotic therapy does not exclude the presence of a carcinomatouselement in prostates.
RESUMO
The concept of Neutral zone is an important biomechanical consideration in fabrication of complete dentures. There are different methods of recording the Neutral zone. This article compares the levels of patient satisfaction with complete denture fabricated using two neutral zone impression materials.
RESUMO
This case is the first report of a bacteriologically proven testicular abscess in a child caused by Salmonella paratyphi 'A' in Pakistan that clinically simulates a testicular tumour. The case also emphasises that a course of 2 weeks antibiotic is sufficient for testicular abscess if complete surgical debridement is done. Keywords: Salmonella paratyphi 'A', Testicular Abscess, Tumour
RESUMO
To assess the effect of depth of incision on the final outcome of radial keratotomy for correction of myopia. Sixty-five eyes with preoperative uncorrected myopia between 2.5-6.0D in subjects with a mean age of 29.2 [+7] years underwent radial keratotomy between Sept 1999--July 2002 in department of Ophthalmology, Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. Based on their preoperative depth of incision the eyes were divided into group-A [twenty-five eyes], with an incision depth of 500-530 micro m, and Group-B [forty eyes], with an incision depth of 531-560 micro m. The comparison between the postoperative visual acuity of two groups was made at the end of study after one years' follow up. A total of Sixteen eyes in Group-A [64%] that were within one diopter of emmetropia at first follow-up reverted back to their preoperative myopic state after one year of surgery as compared to only two eyes [5%] in Group-B [p<0.05]. Hyperopic shift occurred in two eyes [8%] in Group-A, as compared to four eyes [10%] of Group-B [p >0.05]. After one year, refraction showed that only 24% cases of Group-A were within 1 diopter of emmetropia as compared to 85% cases in Group-B. Similarly, 40% cases of Group-A were within 2 diopters of emmetropia as compared to 90% cases of Group-B. Glare and variation of vision in the initial four weeks were the most frequently reported complications in both groups. Depth of corneal incision significantly affects the outcome of surgery, if central optical zone is kept the same in cases of low to moderate degrees of myopia
