RESUMO

A field study was carried out on the population dynamics of the Mediterranean fruit fly [MFF] Cemtitis capitata Wied. males in Assuit governorates [upper Egypt] during 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 seasons in mixed orchards by using Jakson trap. The obtained data revealed that the occurrence of MFF was relatively ail over the two seasons with some exceptions, The abundance of the pest was higher in the second season than that in the first one. The higher appearance of the pest was recorded on September-November in both first and second seasons. Temperature had significant negative correlation [r=0.105] in the first season and insignificant negative correlation [r=0.076] in the first and second seasons, respectively. However, R.H.% had high significant positive [r=0.451] and insignificant positive [r=0.203] in the first and second seasons, respectively. Results obtained could be exploited in management of this insect pest especially, in the control programs

RESUMO

to determine the serum levels of soluble adhesion molecules in children suffering collagen vascular diseases and to determine whether their levels differs during activity and remission of the disease and whether differences in these levels exist between healthy and diseased children. Serum levels of soluble E-selectin [sE-selectin], soluble intracellular adhesion molecule-I [sICAM-l] and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-I [sVCAM-l] were determined by enzyme linked imniunosorbent assay [ELISA] in 50 children. 20 children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis [JRA] [during activity and remission], 20 children with systemic lupus erythematosus [SLE], [during activity and remission], and 10 normal healthy children of comparable age and sex as a control group. Serum rheumatoid factor [RF] and CRP were determined by latex agglutination tests, serum antinuclear antibody [ANA] by indirect immuneoflorescent assay. highly significant differences in the levels of sE-selectin, sICAM-l and sVCAM-l were found in children with JRA during activity and remission [p<0.0001], and a highly significant differences of the three values were found between children with JRA and control [p<0.001]. In children with SLE in activity, a highly significant level of sE-selectin, sICAM-l and sVCAM-l were found when compared to those during remission [p<0.001], while a high significant difference in the level of sVCAM-l was found between children with SLE in activity and control, [p<0.0001]. No significant statistical correlation was found between soluble adhesion molecules and markers of inflammation [CRP, ESR]. A positive correlation was found between sICAM-l arid 5VCAM-l in children with JRA during activity, [r=0.77, p<0.01], and an inverse statistical correlation was found between sVCAM and age in children with SLE during activity [r=-0.84, p<0.001]. A significant raised levels of sE-selectin, sICAM-l and sVCAM-l in children with IRA and of 5VCAM-1 in children with SLE, with a distinct profile of raised soluble adhesion molecules in different forms of collagen vascular disorders. Different levels of sE-selectin, sICAM-l and sVCAM-l in the inflammatory vasculitis may be useful in establishing role of leucocyte/ endothelial adhesion in these diseases and used as markers of disease activity

RESUMO

Over the past 13 years, colon bypass operation was done to 65 patients with post-corrosive stricture of the oesophagus. They were 49 males and 16 females, ranging in age from 5 to 36 years. The colon transplant was tunneled in the anterior mediastinum in 35 cases and subcutaneously in 30 cases. End to end oesophago-colic anastomosis was done in 41 cases, end of the oesophagus to the side of the colon in 18 cases, and the end of the colon to the side of the non-mobilised oesophagus in 6 cases. There were 4 [6.15%] early deaths and 27[41.5%] cases of oesophago-colic anastomotic leaks in the neck. Thirteen [20%] cases needed surgical revision because of sloughing [necrosis], scarring [ischemia], missing a higher stricture and strictures of the oesophago colic anastomosis. The results of the present work were reviewed with special reference to the surgically revised cases. The colon as an ideal substitute for the oesophagus in a variety of congenital and benign conditions has thorougly evaluated by many surgeons. They all have approved the beneficial effects of colon transposition as shown by the long term functional results [Neville and Clowes, 11958; Gross and Firestone, 1967 and Wilkins. 1981]. Although the technique has not changed greatly, the indications are now more precise and information on the long term results is becoming available [Neville and Najem. 1983]. The aim of this paper is to review the 13-year experience of the use of colon transplant for post-corroive strrictures with special references to those cases which needed surgical revision
