RESUMO

Twenty five new 3-cyanopyridine-2[1H]-thione derivatives were synthesized by different routes. Structural elucidation of the prepared compounds was carried out by their correct elemental analyses as well as spectroscopic data [IR, Ms, [1]H-NMR]. Fungicidal activity of the new compounds, on two soil borne fungi, was assayed by food poison technique where, some of the new compounds showed good fungicidal activity. Formulation of the most potent one, in the form of 20% EC, was carried out and its fungicidal activity was evaluated which was found to be more active than the standard fungicide Flutolanil [Moncut 25% WP]

RESUMO

Research and development activities have been carried out world wide and moved forward positively in the twenty-first century to explore the possibilities of application of innovative technologies, e.g. biotechnology, nanotechnology, information technology, microelectronics, wearable computers.etc. in different fields, textile being one of them, to produce high performance products with minimum environmental impacts. Bio- and Nano- smart/ emerging technologies open the way to: - achieve saving in resources and energy consumption, - decline emission of pollutants, - develop innovative textile products with higher value added and functional performance properties, - satisfy the unlimited demands and requirements of the textile consumer, as well as enhance and extend the appeal, the market and the end-uses of textiles. On the other hand, successful marriage of traditional textile/ clothing technology with information and communication technology revolution opens the possibility to: - design and processing with the aid of computers, and automation control, - bring the customers much closer to the supply chain through the internet-based integrated supply-chain management systems, - convert traditional passive clothing into active/smart systems that increase situational awareness, communications, sensing and responding and generally improve performance. Adoption of these Frontier Sciences - based technologies by the Egyptian R and D Institutions and the interface with the Egyptian textile industries for implementation is the only way to revolutionize Egyptian textile and to maximize export capabilities in the increasingly competitive textile industry

RESUMO

There is a strong evidence that environmental pollution adversely affects respiratory health of children. Indoor and outdoor pollutants may contribute to development of chronic respiratory diseases leading to impairment of pulmonary functions. The aim of the study is to detect possible environmental risk factors of chronic lower respiratory diseases [CLRD] among urban and rural school children. Two governmental primary schools were visited in Giza Governorate, one of them is in Boulak El Dakrour representing urban area and the other is in Bashteel representing rural area. The study sample was 300 children from urban [150] and rural [150] areas within age range 10-12 years. The study instruments were: a questionnaire sheet, weight and height measuring scales and an electronic spirometer. Each student was subjected to full clinical examination and pulmonary function testing. The prevalence of CLRD was mostly the same among urban and rural children [20% and 29% respectively]. Logistic regression analysis proved that the type of furniture passive smoking, household insects, residence in the first floor and outdoor pollutants were significant risk factors of CLRD in urban area while rural risk factors were: kerosene fuel, passive smoking, household insects, low socioeconomic class .residence in the first floor and outdoor pollutants

RESUMO

Hydrocarbons, alpha-spinasterol, beta-sitosterol, in addition to pentacyclic triterpenes, ursolic acid and beta-amyrin were isolated from the unsaponifiable matter [USM] of Citrullus colocynthis Schrad and were identified by GCMS. Analysis of the fatty acids methyl ester by GLC revealed the existence of 12 acids in the seeds and 14 acids in deseeded fruits. The major acid is palmitic [57.32%] in the seeds and [57.39%] in the deseeded fruits. Tetracyclic triterpenes were isolated and identified as cucurbitacins D, I, B, E, L from the chloroformic extract of seeds. Moreover, the biological activity of the successive extracts, as well as the unsaponifiable and saponifiable matter of the petroleum ether extract were checked against the cotton leaf worm and cow pea weevils insects

RESUMO

This study was conducted to identify common problems encountered by patients with brain tumors using Roy's Adaptation Model and to formulate nursing diagnostic priorities for patients with brain tumors. Sample [N = 68] consisted of patients with a diagnosis of brain tumor. Age ranged from 18 to 63 years. Findings showed that, most of the brain tumor patients' problems fall in the basic physiological mode of Roy's Adaptation Model while, few of problems fall into the three other modes of adaptation; namely, self-concept, role function and interdependence. Significant difference between both sexes was found regarding the postoperartive complications. However, age was not found to affect the occurrence of these complications. It is assumed that, nursing diagnosis would be the keystone of the care plan of brain tumor patients in improving the quality of delivered patients care for such specialized group of patients

RESUMO

The present study introduced a new device which helped and facilitated breathing exercises in patients [N = 20] with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The device consisted of the body of a regular pocket inhaler on the outlet of which a soft balloon was attached. Patients were asked to blow trying to inflate the balloon. Breathing exercises were done 5-10 times each session, four sessions a day, before each meal. Results showed that an improvement in respiratory function [FEV1%] was possible using the new device helped patients; practice through it breathing exercises and ultimately improve their gas exchange, achieve airway clearance and consequently, improve their breathing pattern. This in addition to, improve their exercise tolerance as measured by an improvement in walking tolerance

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to explore the self-care agency of hospitalized and institutionalized elderly related to their mental and functional states. Sample of the study included 45 elders. The Mental Status Questionnaire, the Household Activities, and Activities of Daily living Scale, and the Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale were utilized to collect data for the study. Results showed no statistical significant differences were elicited among the three groups' scores of exercise of self-care agency, mental or functional state. As predicted positive direct relationships were indicated between most of the studied variables scores. The study limitations and implications were discussed

RESUMO

The dissociation constants of some azo-beta-diketone compounds were evaluated potentiometrically in different dioxane-water mixtures and at different temperatures. The solvent effect has been discussed. The thermodynamic parameters [delta H, delta C and delta S] were evaluated and the isoequilibrium relationship has been tested. A trial was made to calculate the number of water and solvent molecules around the ligands upon dissociation. It was found that the ligand species are more solvated than aquated in the studied mixtures

RESUMO

The effect of varying the percentage of dioxane and temperature on the pK values of some azo-beta-diketones was studied portestiometrically. The results azo-beta-revealed that the degree of solvation preceeded in accordance with the following order I, II, III, IV. The delta H°, delta G° and delta S° values were evaluted. Evaluation of the isoquilibrium tempratures revealed that for compound I, the dissociation process is entropy and enthalpy controlled while for the other compounds, the process is mainly enthalpy controlled
