RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To determine Patient's presentation with mandibular fractures at Liaquat Medical University Hospital, Hyderabad


METHODS: This descriptive study was carried out in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. Sample size of [n=88] with inclusion Criteria: Patients from 10-70 years of age with either gender group, Patient with clinical signs and symptoms / radiological evidence of Mandibular fracture, exclusion Criteria was medically compromised patients, Previously maltreated cases, Patients with associated other facial skeletal fractures for the year 2010-2011


RESULTS: A total of 122 mandibular fractures were recorded with male: female ratio 7:3. The road traffic accident [RTA] was the leading [42%] cause, while assault represented 21% followed by fall [15%], FAI [09%], Sports [07%] and other causes [06%].Regarding the site distribution of mandibular fractures, [15%] occurred in the condyle,[ 23%] in the angle, and [21%] in the body, [16%] parasymphsis, [15%] symphysis, [1%] ramus and [9%] dento-alveolar. Different treatment modalities were used for the proper reduction and fixation of the fracture sites. Majority of patients treated open reduction with miniplates fixation


CONCLUSION: The commonest cause of Mandibular fractures in our setup was road traffic accident,and the results of this study may be helpful for the government and public to improve road traffic sense in road users, action taken or awareness of seat belt and helmet while driving and legislation in our population

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study are to analyze the pattern; symptoms and pathology associated with impacted mandibular third molar teeth


MATERIAL AND METHODS: This descriptive case series study was conducted at department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad


The duration of study was from 1[st] Nov 2011 to 31[st] July 2012.Patients complaining of impacted teeth along with two diagnostic x rays, age, gender, type of impaction and associated pathology were recorded


RESULTS: Total of 290 patients were included in this study. Out of these females were predominantly affected, mean age was found to be 24.41 years. Vertical impaction was the most common type of mandibular impaction [37.4%] and pain, caries was the common pathological symptom associated with impacted teeth


CONCLUSION: Our study showed most common age group involved was group 1 sample sizes


Vertical and Mesioangular were most common impaction seen in this study group with common symptoms pain and caries

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the mean difference in inter-appointment pain by using ledermix and no intracanal medicament in patients with acute apical peridontitis


Material and Methods: This Randomized control trial was conducted at Operative dentistry department of Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine, Karachi during August 2009 to February 2010. Patients after selection were divided into two groups by even-odd method. Group 1: ledermix paste and Group 2: no intracanal medicament [control group]. The follow-up visit was scheduled and the Mean inter-appointment pain was recorded after 48 hours on visual analogue scale


Results: In 222 patients mean inter appointment pain was 9.0+/-0.71 in group 1 and 12.26 +/- 0.90 in group 2. The mean difference between groups 3.26 +/- 1.15 [95% CI of mean: 0.99 to 5.53]


Conclusion: Patients with ledermix paste experienced significantly less postoperative pain than with no intracanal medicament [p=0.005] at 48 hours
