RESUMO

Objetivo: Establecer los conocimientos, actitudes y estilos de vida frente a la osteoporosis (OP) enuna población del Caribe colombiano.Materiales y Métodos: Estudio de tipo transversal, sobre una muestra aleatoria de 277 mujeres queasistieron voluntariamente a campañas de detección de osteoporosis en la ciudad de Barranquilla. Conclusiones: El conocimiento sobre la osteoporosis de acuerdo con el cuestionario es bajo. La informaciónrecibida sobre la enfermedad previamente es pobre. La información que reciben las personassobre OP proviene de fuentes diferentes de los médicos. Las actitudes hacia la osteoporosis demandanmayor compromiso por el personal de salud para difundir un mejor conocimiento.


Objectives: To establish knowledge, attitudes and lifestyle issues about Osteoporosis in aColombian population of the Caribbean region.Methods: Cross sectional survey to 277 females who assisted spontaneously to open campaignsof osteoporosis detection in Barranquilla. The information was gathered through personalinterview which consisted of a structured questionnaire (OKAT) previously validated forothers, and by the application of the bone densitometry peripheral diagnostic test (Accudexa).Statistical analysis was done with Epiinfo 6.04Results: Only 32.2 percent had an appropriate knowledge of the osteoporosis according to questionnaireOKAT. Just 16.2 percent had receive previous information about disease. Most (76 percent)think that the osteoporosis causes incapacity and 88 percent consider that can be prevented fromchildhood. The studies to evaluate the OP were recommended mostly the promoters ofthe campaigns (36.8percent) and less frequently by relatives (24.1percent) and doctors (24percent). 76.5 percent ofthe patients obtain data about OP television, followed by information received at medicaldoctor’s office (37.5percent) although 67percent expressed that it would like to receive this informationdirectly of its doctor.Conclusions: The knowledge on the osteoporos...
