RESUMO
A passagem da modernidade à pós-modernidade ainda precisa ser melhor compreendida e avaliada, principalmente por aqueles que reivindicam a necessidade de uma radical transformação de nossas sociedades, isto é, a substituição do modo de produção capitalista. Acreditamos que é possível apreender este novo contexto histórico, ou seja, o pós-modernismo, examinando, na obra de Marcuse, o chamado caráter afirmativo da cultura e, depois disso, a situação da cultura na pós-modernidade, a partir do ponto de vista da seminal contribuição de Fredric Jameson. A pergunta que orienta nossa reflexão tem um duplo sentido: o pós-modernismo representa, a um só tempo, a eliminação do caráter afirmativo da cultura e a dissolução da antiga dicotomia entre cultura e civilização?.
The passage from modernity to post-modernity still needs to be better understood and evaluated, especially for those who claim the need of a radical transformation of our societies, that is, the substitution of the capitalist mode of production. We believe it is possible to grasp this new historic context , namely, postmodernism, examining, in the work of Marcuse, the so called affirmative character of the culture and, after that, the situation of culture in post-modernity, from the point of view of the seminal contribution of Fredric Jameson. The question the guides our reflection has a double significance: does postmodernism represents, at the same time, the elimination of the affirmative character of the culture and the dissolution of the old dichotomy between culture and civilization?.
