RESUMO

Diffusion weighted MRI [DWI] scans are very sensitive and specific for the detection of hyperacute and acute infarctions, having a sensitivity of 88%-100% and a specificity of 86%-100%. However, they have certain limitations such as in severely ill patients, artifacts or sometimes unavailability in an emergency. In the current era of thrombolytic therapy, rapid identification of the presence and extent of ischemia is essential. Hence, exploitation of CT perfusion can be helpful in such cases. To identify proper modality in cases of acute stroke in order to set selective criteria for each modality. Showed that both CT perfusion and MRI diffusions are usually complementary to each others as regards identification of the stroke. We can suggest a simple algorithm to choose the proper modality for each patient

RESUMO

To endorse role of color Doppler sonography, as a rapid screening bed side test, for diagnosis of ureteral patency after total hysterectomy. This study included 50 patients who underwent total abdominal hysterectomy for benign conditions. Early postoperative Transabdominal color Doppler sonography of the urinary bladder for visualization of ureteral jets was done for all patients. Intravenous pyelography was done for few selected patients. The mean time required for visualizing ureteral jets, and the total number of jets per minute was not significantly different between right and left ureter. Normal flow pattern in the form of discrete jets was observed in all cases except 10 cases that showed partial obstruction in which the ureteral jets were in the form of sluggish continuous flow. Color Doppler sonography had high sensitivity and predictive values for early simple detection of uretral patency. Transabdominal color Doppler can be a simple bed side screening test for postoperative ureteral patency

RESUMO

Relation and characterization of female pelvic masses is important information should be available for the surgeon before surgical procedure. Rapid advances in technique of magnetic resonance [MR] has enable the diagnosis of acute gynecological conditions. Knowledge of this informations in a rapid manner may be helpful by MRI fat suppression technique. MRI study using fat suppression technique has high specificity and sensitivity for tissue characterization and relation of pelvic masses. To introduce rapid MRI technique for emergency evaluation of acute female pelvic pain. Patient with pelvic mass were evaluated by MRI using fat suppression technique to assess tissue characterization and relation to pelvic organs

RESUMO

This study included a total of 26 patients [16 females and 10 males with ages ranging from 5 months to 65 years]. In nine patients, the lesions were bilateral; thus, the total number of the examined eye globes was 35. All patients were subjected to history taking and MRI examination. Sixteen patients underwent US examination, while CT examination was performed to five patients. In the 26 patients evaluated with MRI, the final diagnosis included unilateral retinoblastoma [n = 3], bilateral retinoblastoma [n = 5], choroidal melanoma [n = 3], ciliary body capillary hemangioma [n = 1], choroidal metastasis [n = 2], choroidal hemangioma [n = 2], retinopathy of prematurity [bilateral] [n = 1], persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous [bilateral] [n = 1], bilateral coloboma [n = 2], endophthalmitis [n = 2], post-traumatic intraocular lesions [n = 1], retinal detachment [n = 2] and vitreous hemorrhage [n = 1]. A histopathologic confirmation was obtained in retinoblastoma [four patients], choroidal melanoma [two patients], ciliary body capillary hemangioma [one patient] and choroidal metastasis [one patient]

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to asses the role of CT in the diagnosis of neck masses and its accuracy compared with other diagnostic modalities. 50 patients representing various neck masses had been subject of our study. They were 34 males and 16 females and their ages ranged between 23 and 75 years. Clinical examination and laboratory investigations, if needed were recorded for all patients. Ultrasonography was done for 5 patients. Isotopic scanning with T99m was done for 4 patients representing various thyroid lesions. Parotid sialography was done for one patient. CT examination was done for all 50 patients. The results showed that CT can help in the differentiation of inflammatory, benign and malignant lesions from each other to great extent. In most cases, CT was also important in showing the diagnosis, and extent of the deeply seated lesions, which were not apparent clinically or by endoscope. The results showed that CT was the best single examination, among the imaging modalities for evaluation of neck masses. It had highest sensitivity rate and the greatest accuracy

RESUMO

60 pregnant ladies were examined by Doppler ultrasonic modality, 30 ladies of them in early stage of gestation, while the other 30 ladies were in late stage of gestation. Diagnosis of them was based upon the gestational age fetal body weight, fetal heart beats and umbilical blood flow as well as placental maturity

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to emphasize the role of 2nd and 3rd reconstruction in the evaluation of the maxillofacial lesions. This was performed on 50 patients classified into 5 groups; congenital maxillofacial lesions [10 patients], maxillofacial fractures [23 patients], inflammatory lesions [6 patients], neoplastic lesions [5 patients] and temporo-mandibular joint disorders [6 patients]. It was concluded that 3D reconstruction complements 2D CT scanning, which may be valuable in preoperative ii assessments of maxillofacial lesions. 3D CT reformation was an available adjunct in the evaluation of congenital maxillofacial anomalies, as it was able to demonstrate the precise osseous anatomy and offered a simplified technique for viewing and interpreting facial. 3D CT gave good visualization of the extent and course of fracture lines. 3D CT showed better visualization of the destructive bony processes in neoplastic masses, while, the delineation of soft tissue masses was better appreciated on conventional CT images

RESUMO

MR examinations using Fonar non superconducting magnet 0.3 Tesla were performed for all 70 cases. Diagnostic arthroscopy of the knee for 42 patients was done under general anesthesia to document the location of the lesion. The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments were easily demonstrated by sagittal images through the intercondylar notch, while the tibial and fibular collateral ligaments were evaluated on coronal images. The lesions of the medial and lateral menisci can be evaluated properly on either coronal or sagittal images. Tears of the anterior cruciate ligament were detected in 24 cases [57.1%], while posterior cruciate ligament tear was detected in one case [2.4%]. Medial meniscal tears were detected in 25 cases [59.5%], while lateral meniscal tears were detected in 19 cases [45.5%]. Grade 1 meniscal degenerations were found in 5 medial menisci and 6 lateral menisci, while grade 2 generation involved 33 medial menisci and 18 lateral menisci. Popliteal cyst was detected in one case, but meniscal cysts were demonstrated in 3 cases. Chondromalacia patella were detected in 7 cases in this work
