@#This study investigates cochlear implant surgical and Audio Verbal Therapy (AVT) practice patterns of patients with hearing loss (HL) based on data of “Aid” ENT Clinic and Speech Therapy Unit of School of Dentistry, Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) between 2009-2018. Our aim was to describe and collect related data on surgical interventions, using cochlear implant for patients with severe hearing loss and their involvement in the AVT sessions. Hospital based registry data by audiologistwere retrospectively investigated. Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the data in the study. In total 78 patients had cochlear implantation surgery with chronological age between 2 months and 55 years. From total subjects 46 (54.59%) were male and 32 (33.41%) female. The distribution of etiology for the hearing loss showed that the majority of hearing loss 47 (60%) had due to infectious diseases, other diseases or injury, 25 (32%) congenital and 6 (8%) unknown causes. Documentation and proper registration is essential for better outcome of cochlear implantation surgery, especially teamwork of speech therapist doing AVT and audiologist in charge of fitting. Furthermore, epidemiological studies are important for evaluation and monitoring of interventions by every specialists included in the treatment team.

@#The main goal of this study is to examine the development of auditory perception performances of a cochlear implanted child who receive auditory verbal therapy. Present study included a child with prelinguistic hearing loss who received cochlear implant at the Department of ENT, 1st State Central Hospital and enrolled in Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) in the Speech Therapy Unit of “ Aid” Clinic. This hearing impaired child participated in auditory verbal therapy with their mother and/or father for 5 months, and the family was given training programs to apply at home after each therapy session. The auditory perception performances of a child were evaluated before implantation and after: twice every week in total 32 Audio-Verval Therapy sessions were performed with the help of Medel LittlEars Auditory Questionnaire, LIP (Listening Process Profile), Ling’s Five Sound Test, the Multiple Frequency Animal Sound Test (mFAST) and MTP (Monosyllable and Polysyllable Test). The auditory perception performances of a child joining auditory verbal therapy programs increased after 5 months of implantation. According to the Ling’s test all 5 sounds are determined (20-60dB) in 1m distance, but discrimination is observed in frequency range between 40-60 dB for sounds “A”, “U” and “M”. Parents active participation as well as full attendance in the AVT treatment shows progress in auditory development of a child. Furthermore evaluation and data analysis is needed.

@#BACKGROUND Congenital and acquired hearing loss considered as the most common disability. According to the WHO report, 360 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, and 32 million of these are children. Severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss can be treated successfully with cochlear implants. Post implant Auditory Verbal Therapy/ Hearing Implant Rehabilitation is essential for the progress and better outcome. Multidisciplinary team approach, including ENT, audiologist, speech therapy, social worker, coordinator, caregiver /parent is required. The first clinical speech therapy department in Mongolia was established by the School of Dentistry, MNUMS based at the Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the MCNHC in 2006 (G. Ariuntuul, B. Bulgan, U. Azzaya). Where as the very first Cochlear Implanted child in Mongolia was received the surgery and audiology support by A. Ulziibayar, L. Byambasuren, B. Misheel, B. Narantya and the hearing implant rehabilitation treatment successfully conducted by the abovementioned speech team in 2009. Aim: To analyze current situation on speech therapy intervention for patients with hearing loss and deafness. METHODS Retrospective hospital data were collected based on the School of Dentistry, Speech therapy department between January, 2009- February, 2017. In total 70 patients’ information were retrieved for the study. Descriptive method is used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Out of 70 patients, attended speech therapy sessions 38 (54%) were males, 32 (46%) were females; where as 21 (30%) had congenital deafness and 28 (40%) acquired; 21 (30%) patients with hearing loss not known their causes of deafness. From the total of 28 (100%) cases with acquired hearing loss/deafness 11 (39%) patients cause of deafness is due to complication from infectios disease: meningitis.

BACKGROUND: The prescriptions of multi-component have been the subject of chemical study fora long time. Therefore, when compounding the preparations of multi-component in traditionalmedicine, their taste is cautiously relied on, as the power of the medicine should not be subduedwith the power of another. Our research group has been carrying out tests on the raw materials,which are contained in multi-component prescriptions. However, research on multiple prescriptionsis relatively less being carried out.The traditional medicine naro-3 is used in traditionalmedical practicefor the treatment of inflammationand as a pain relieving remedy. Naro-3 is composed of 3 medicinal herbs including AconitumKuznezoffii Reichb, Terminalia chebula Retz, Piper longum L.GOAL: The aim of the study is to investigate some phytochemical compounds of traditional prescriptionNaro-3.OBJECTIVES:1. To reveal biological active substances of naro-3;2. The sum of the quantitative chemical study by spectrophotometry;3. To establish main criteria of standardMATERIALS AND METHODS: Traditional medicine narî-3 was produced from the Traditional Medicinefactoryof TMSTPC. In the phytochemical research, biological active substances were determinedby thin layer chromatography (TLC), on silica gel plats. The total contents of alkaloid and tannincompounds were determined by titrimetric method. TheMongolian pharmacopoeia was used fordetermination of quality parameters of traditional medicine Naro-3.RESULTS: TLC measurements of biological active substances of naro-3 showed that contains gallicacid and alkaloids respectively. The result of our research it was determined that the total tannin10.4 percent, total alkaloid 2.47 percent and organic acid 2.67 percent in drug Naro-3.CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that naro-3 contains a large amount of biologicalactive substances such as tannins, alkaloids and organic acids, which are connected with its painrelieving and anti-inflammatory effects.

BackgroundThese study made us to investigate the drug row material of Mongolian traditional medicine such us Tribulus terrestris, Malva neclecta Wall and Eriocheir sinensis compounded preparation named “Malbus”. Investigated us preparations steel using for treatment of kidney and urinetract deseases, it is one of effective in Mongolian traditional drug preparations.Material and MethodsThe experimental protocol was approved by the Ethics Review Committee at the Ministry Health of Mongolia. In research we used 20 healthy mice and 60 Wistar rats. Investigation was based and implemented at scientific research laboratory of Traditional Medical Science Technology and Producttion Corporation and pathological laboratory of Institute Veterinary medicine. Chemically acting substances is steroid saponin content in Malbus compound was detected by using thin layerchromatography (TLC) and its value was determined by UV-spectrophotometry. The acute oral toxicity study was according to the method Prozorovsky (1978). The toxic nephrosis was produced using Gentamicin (80 mg/kg) rats by using Neugarten’s method (1983).ResultsThe ethanolic extract results of the phytochemical investigations showed that conteined in the “Malbus” determined the presence of bioactive substances such as flavonoids, steroid saponins. The ethanolic extract of Malbus was found to be LD50 of 16.3 g/kg. Toxic nephrosis was induced in Wistar rats administered preparation Malbus dose 80 mg/kg, 160 mg/kg, and 240 mg/kg. Blood levels of creatinine, uric acid, and urea were siginificantly reduced by Malbus treatment compared tocontrol. Histological study revealed that Malbus was effective for treatment of nephritis in rats induced by gentamicin.Conclusions:1. The ethanolic extract of “Malbus” compound determined the presence of bioactive substances such as flavonoids, steroid saponins.2. LD50 of Malbus 16.3 g/kg, the preparation is has nephroprotective effect on experimental Gentamicine induced nephrosis in rats.

BackgroundThe preparations of multi-component have been the subject of chemical study for a long time. Therefore, when compounding the preparations of multi-component in traditional medicine, their taste is cautiously relied on, as the power of the one medicine should not be subdued with the power of another. Additionally the properties of the components and their regulating effects on the body systems are also considered. Our research group has been carrying out tests for raw materials,which are contained in multi-component preparations. However, it is a necessity to conduct phytochemical study on multi-component preparations in order to isolate pure biological active compounds and to identify their structure as well as to quantify its amount by modern techniques of analysis.GoalThe aim of the present study was to isolate pure biological active substances from Mongolian traditional medicine Garidi-5 and to elucidate their structures, which was used in Mongolian traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation and as a pain relieving remedy.Objectives:1. To isolate pure substances from Garidi-5 and carry out tests to identify and determine their structure2. To quantify the amount of biological active substances.Materials and MethodsMongolian traditional medicine Garidi-5 has been selected as a biological natural product for the study. Garidi-5 is a traditional Mongolian medicine consisting of 5 medicinal herbs, namely Terminalia chebula Retz., Aconitum Kusnezoffii Reichb., Acorus calamus L., Saussurea lappa L., and musk of Moschus moschiferus and manufactured in the Drug factory of Traditional Medical Science Technology and Production Corporation of Mongolia. In this research, in order to determine the total content of phenolic compound was used the Folin–Ciocalteu method, which based on performing dark blue color complex compound. Isolated substance identification was determined by the TLC, UV and IR spectrophotometric methods. Inaddition it was checked melting point of the isolated substance. Determination of Gallic acid30g Garidi-5 was macerated in 60ml 80% methanol at room temperature for 24 h. After extraction, the extract was concentrated and vacuum evaporated. Different solvents from hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol were used for theexperiment. All the extracts collected, evaporated and chromatographed on Silica gel column. Future purification of active fractions on Silica gel with methanol yielded the compound G1 which was further characterized as Gallic acid. Total phenolic content was determined spectrophotometrically according to the Folin–Ciocalteu’s method with slight modification. Gallic acid was used as a standard phenolic compound. Briefly, 1 ml of extract solution contains 1 mg extracts, in a volumetric flask diluted with distilled water (46 ml). One ml of Folin-Ciocalteu reagent was added and the content of the flask mixed thoroughly. After 3 min, 3 ml of Na2CO3 (2%) was added and then the mixture was allowed to stand for 2 h with intermittent shaking. The absorbance was measured at 760 nm in a spectrophotometer. All measurements were performed in triplicate.ResultsIn this research, TLC method on silica gel plates was used in order to identify the biological active pure substances from Garidi-5. Preliminary TLC experiments indicated the presence of Gallic acid in Garidi-5, which was isolated by column chromatography by comparing with reference standard substance (Gallic acid). Gallic acid was determined in the solvent system benzole-ethyl acetateformic acid- acetone (5:5:2:0.5) in isolated substance (G1). It showed blue color, Rf =0.65, on TLC plate. [1] For the characterization of two samples it was carried out IR analysis for each. In the IR spectra of G1 and standard substance can be recognized by the following absorption frequency regions: 700-900 cm-1 for Car-H; 1000-1300 cm-1 for vibration of bonds in various oxygen containing groups, 1350-1470 cm-1 for vibrations of –CH, -CH2 and –CH3 groups; 1500-1630 cm-1 for skeletal vibrations of aromatic rings, >C=O bonds; 2800-2950 cm-1 for stretching vibrations of –CH, -CH2 and -CH3 groups in saturated aliphatic structures; and 3030-3350 cm-1 for stretching associated vibrations of -OH groups in aromatic rings and aliphatic structures. As a result it was revealed that both IR spectra of G1 and standard substances were similar. [3]Further for the characterization of two samples it was carried out UV analysis of each. In the UV spectra of G1 and standard substance can be recognized by the following absorption frequency regions: 260-280nm for benzole groups; 200-225nm for carbonic acids; 400-770nm >C=O bonds, which reveal the presence of Gallic acid. In addition, melting point of isolated substance G1 was analyzed and detected at 2410C, which was similar to the standard substance’s melting point. [4]Moreover, Mongolian traditional medicine Garidi-5 contains 24% of the biological active substance (total phenolic compounds). [2]Conclusions:As a result of current study on Mongolian medicine Garidi-5, it was isolated one essential substance from ethyl acetate fraction. The phytochemical analysis reveals the presence of Gallic acid in Garidi- 5, which was determined by thin layer chromatography, UV and IR spectrophotometric methods. Mongolian traditional medicine Garidi-5 contains 24% of the biological active substance. Thus, the isolation of Gallic acid from multi-component preparations and identification of its structure was first phytochemical study conducted in our laboratory.
