Hallervorden Spatz disease: MR imaging.

Three patients were diagnosed as suffering from Hallervorden Spatz disease, a rare disorder, on the basis of their clinical and MRI findings.

Giant rheumatoid synovial cyst of the hip joint: diagnosed by MRI.

Synovial cysts are commonly found in the knee joint. Hip Joint is an infrequent site for formation of synovial cysts. The features of a large, synovial cyst on magnetic resonance imaging, occurring in the hip joint, are described.

Ileo-ileo-colic intussusception secondary to an ileal lipoma.

Adult intussusception is extremely uncommon and constitutes approximately 5-16% of all intussusceptions. We describe a case of ileo-ileo-colic intussusception secondary to an ileal lipoma occurring in a 22 year old man who in addition had autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. CT scan played a pivotal role in not only demonstrating the cause of intestinal obstruction (intussusception) but also showed that a lipoma was the lead point precipitating the intussusception.

Isolated cerebral hydatid cysts: a comparative study of two different types of presentations.

OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the existence of two imaging patterns of cerebral hydatidosis and discuss its clinical importance. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective review of six cases of cerebral hydatidosis using various imaging techniques including CT, MRI, angiography and cystogram. RESULTS: Clinically the most common findings included papilloedema, headache and vomiting. Two of the cases reported recurrence of symptoms and were reoperated. The first 4 cases presented the classical signs of unilocular well defined cysts while the last two cases had multilocular, often polygonal cysts with perifocal edema, calcification and membrane detachment. CONCLUSION: Two radiologically and pathologically distinct subtypes of hydatidosis exist. Division into groups may assist decision over treatment protocol.

MR imaging in children with ectopic pituitary gland and anterior hypopituitarism.

Posterior pituitary ectopia refers to an absent normal posterior pituitary bright spot within the sella with ectopic bright signal at another site (such as the median eminence) on a weighted magnetic resonance. We describe two children with idiopathic anterior hypopituitarism who showed an ectopic posterior pituitary and absent pituitary stalk on imaging. We emphasize the association of the absent pituitary stalk in ectopic pituitary gland and low growth hormone levels.

MR imaging features in hypothalamic hamartoma: a report of three cases and review of literature.

Hypothalamic hamartomas are rare tumours of particular interest because of their unusual symptoms. Three cases of hypothalamic hamartomas are reported in children, who presented with precocious puberty and gelastic seizures.

Pancreatic lymphoma masquerading as adenocarcinoma.

Primary pancreatic lymphoma is rare. We report a young man with primary lymphoma in the pancreatic head who presented with obstructive jaundice.

Multiple intracranial lipomas, hypogenetic corpus callosum and vestibular schwannoma: an unusual spectrum of MR findings in a patient.

We describe imaging findings of a patient with multiple intracranial lipomas, hypogenetic corpus callosum and a vestibular schwannoma. We did not find association of intracranial lipomas and vestibular schwannoma in English literature.

Ruptured intracranial dermoids: magnetic resonance imaging.

Rupture of intracranial dermoids tumour is rare and carries with it the risk of significant morbidity as well as fatality. Three cases that presented with varying symptoms ranging from headache to chiasmatic compression and suspected to have rupture of dermoid tumour are described. The importance of MR imaging in their diagnosis is discussed.

Encephalopathy in a patient with Addison disease.

Patients with adrenal insufficiency manifest a myriad of metabolic disorders which can inflict neurologic damage. Here we present an unusual clinical presentation and distinctive imaging features in a patient with Addison disease.

Imaging features of gossypiboma: report of two cases.

Recognition of postoperatively retained foreign body referred euphemistically as gossypiboma is essential but is very often considerably delayed. Legal implications as well as confusing configuration patterns cause considerable dilemma in the accurate diagnosis. We present computed tomographic features of gossypiboma in two patients who presented with symptoms of fever and pain in the immediate post-operative period. A prospective radiological diagnosis is essential for further management in these patients.

Pedunculated nasal glioma: MRI features and review of the literature.

Nasal gliomas are uncommon lesions, with approximately 100 cases reported in the literature. We present a case of intranasal glioma with a pedicle of glial tissue and defect in the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone. Presence of such a pedicle is almost always present in the encephaloceles and is known to be distinctively uncommon in nasal gliomas.

Spontaneous isolated lesser sac hematoma in a patient with hemophilia.

In patients with hemophilia, hematomas in the mesentery and bowel wall have been described uncommonly. The lesser sac is a rare site of spontaneous hemorrhage even in patients with bleeding diathesis; only a single case of isolated lesser sac hemorrhage has been reported in a hemophiliac patient. We report a similar case with no history of trauma. He recovered with administration of factor VIII concentrate.

Pancreatic carcinoid: an unusual tumour in an uncommon location.

Primary pancreatic carcinoid is an extremely rare pancreatic neoplasm. It differs from other primary pancreatic tumours in cytoarchitecture, immunocytochemistry and biologic behaviour. Recognition of this rare entity is of vital importance having considerable therapeutic and prognostic implications. We report a case of an exophytic, pancreatic body carcinoid tumour in a man who presented with abdominal pain. The diagnosis was established by histopathological examination of the core biopsy specimen. A surgical resection of the lesion was done successfully and the patient made a satisfactory recovery from the operation.
