RESUMO

Background & Objective: To establish the involvement of central dopaminergic and serotonergic mechanismof ginger-juice (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE ROSCOE) CNS parameters in rat. Methodology: (A) Albino rats (n=6-12) were administered G.J at two doses (2ml & 4 ml/rat, p.o) as single administration and chronic treatment over period of 30 days. Following this assessment was done. Effect of treatment with G.J acutely and chronically (30days) administered, was assessed. Parameters used during assessment were total acidity, gastric volume & pH and ulcer index ‘UI’(acute and chronic). Results & Conclusion: Ginger administered itself did not affect loco motor activity as well as amphetamine-induced enhancement of loco motor activity.Lithium induced head twitches were enhanced after chronic administration indicating enhanced serotonergic system in the central nervous system.

RESUMO

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an uncommon mesenchymal tumor and is classified as an Intermediate (rarely metastasizing) fibroblastic/myofibroblastic tumor (WHO 2013). It occurs as slow growing masses at any location in deep soft tissue, abdomen/pelvis, pleura, the extremities and other sites. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman with a slow growing swelling of the right thigh. On magnetic resonance imaging, a large lobulated, heterogeneously enhancing septated lesion was noted. Wide excision of the lesion showed a well-circumscribed tumor with gray white and mucoid areas. Light microscopic examination showed a circumscribed, partially encapsulated tumor composed of hypercellular areas with intervening hypocellular, hyalinized areas were seen and tumor cells showed diffuse strong CD34 positivity. Based on histopathology and immunohistochemistry (IHC), a final diagnosis of SFT was offered. SFTs belong to a spectrum of neoplasms from benign to malignant which can occur at myriad sites in the body. IHC forms the basis for confirmatory diagnosis. To prevent mislabeling as sarcoma, a high degree of suspicion and radio-histological correlation is warranted to arrive at a conclusive diagnosis.

RESUMO

Background: In the view of contradictory reporting concerning analgesic effect, it was planned to investigate the analgesic effect of ginger-juice (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE ROSCOE) on wistar albino rat. Methodology: Wistar albino rats (n=6-12) were administered ginger juice (GJ) at doses (4ml/rat, p.o) as single administration (single dose) and repeated dose over a period of 7 days. Effect of treatment with G.J single and repeated (7days) dose was assessed. Parameter used during assessment was licking of paw after placing the rate on analgesiometer heated up to 50C. Results: The single and repeated administration of GJ (4ml/rat,p.o for 7 days) did not indicate analgesic effect on hot plate model. Conclusion: administered itself did not show analgesic effect on hot plate model.

RESUMO

Background & objectives: To investigate the Antioxidant property of ginger-juice (G.J) in rat. Methods: Albino rats (n=6-12) were administered G.J at two doses (4ml/rat, p.o) as a chronic treatment over period of 21 days. The liquid portion which was obtained by the course of filtration, looked like yellowish hazy opalescent liquid. ANTIOXIDANT STATUS (FREE RADICALS): Blood samples were used for following antioxidant parameters. 1. Glutathione peroxidise 2. Glutathione reductase 3. Total antioxidant status Results: The chronic administration of G.J (4ml/rat, p.o) over a period of 21 days did not alter any of these parameters except glutathione reductase. Conclusion: G.J rules out the Antioxidants property in form of rise reduced glutathione level was noted.

RESUMO

The dental pulp has been shown to have its own reparative capacity and is capable not only of healing but also of providing a dentinal bridge in the absence of calcium hydroxide. The present study was performed to evaluate interfacial gaps formed due to polymerization shrinkage of composite resin. 20 Maxillary or Mandibular, freshly extracted human third molars were prepared and filled using composite with a calcium hydroxide base. The samples were divided into two groups based on primer/bonding agent used i.e. Scotchbond multipurpose (Group I) and Single bond (Group II). Sectioned samples were gold sputtered and analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The interfacial gap in specimens belonging to group I and II was observed at the 3 interfaces viz; Calcium hydroxide-dentin interface (A), Composite resin - calcium hydroxide interface (B) and Composite resin - dentin interface (C). The interfacial gap formed between calcium hydroxide and dentin (A) was highly significant (p <0.01) in both groups i.e. Group I and Group II, when it was compared with ‘B’ and ‘C’ of the same group. There was no statistical significant difference between group ‘B’ and ‘C’. Thus in both the groups an interfacial gap was found between the calcium hydroxide and dentin. Interposition of calcium hydroxide between tooth and resin possesses some clinical disadvantages and is recommended in selective clinical situations.

RESUMO

Root debridement by scaling and root planing may not completely remove contaminated cementum particularly in more apical areas. The smear layer formed during root planing inhibits cell migration and attachment leading to impaired marginal periodontal healing. In the present study an attempt is made to compare the morphological effects of root surface demineralization using citric acid, TTC and EDTA as root conditioning agents. The findings obtained from this study could form the basis for future in vivo studies using the same agents for demineralization procedures.

RESUMO

Based on clinical observation that gingival recession may occur during orthodontic therapy involving sites that have an “insufficient” zone of gingiva, it is suggested that grafting procedure to be adapted to increase the gingival dimensions preceding the initiation of the orthodontic therapy. But once it is created, should be solved in appropriate way. We report a case treated for post-orthodontic gingival recession. The procedure involved the utilization of subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) combined with coronally advanced flap procedure. At the post-operative follow-up visits the success of the surgical approach was confirmed by the absence of bleeding to probing and periodontal pockets as well as presence of gingival tissue with normal color, texture and contouring. After 12 months of follow-up, the clinical conditions were better than immediate post-operative result with satisfactory root coverage and periodontal health by the process known as creeping attachment. An excellent esthetical outcome was achieved and the patient was satisfied with case resolution.

RESUMO

Excessive gingival pigmentation is a major esthetic concern for many people. Though, it is not a medical problem, many people complain of dark gums as unesthetic. Esthetic gingival depigmentation can be performed in such patients with excellent results. A case is reported here in which a simple and effective surgical depigmentation was performed without the use of any sophisticated instruments or apparatus.

RESUMO

Computerized tomography (CT) scan and operative observations, and histolopathogical findings of 25 cases of intracranial hemangioblastoma were correlated. Solid hemangioblastomas showed a large number of thin-walled capillaries and abundant stromal cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Tumors with a cystic component and a mural nodule had a large number of stromal cells with vacuolated cytoplasm and microcysts.
