An experimental study was performed for showing the effectiveness of two diagnostic means of pain in the child. Two groups were created. An study group composed of 10 children of 4 to 7 yearsold, admitted in the Pediatric Hospital of Camagüey during the months of march and april, 1997, with diseases that showed pain symptoms without treatment for this. Another group, the control one, of children supposedly healthy, who attend to Cesticos de Rosas daycare centre and José Luis Tasende Primary School. The test of Nine Faces described by Mac Grath and the Color Scale of Eland were applied to each group. A comparative analysis of techniques' results was performed? and it is shown that both instruments resulted in diagnostic discriminating means. As recommendations, the sample should be expanded and tests' calibration should be performed in a population of cuban children.
