RESUMO

Considering the importance of websites in informing users and establishing communications, universities have started to design their own websites for organizing and making their information accessible. Evaluation of these websites through webometric methods will help recognize pitfall and strong points to reach a better quality and constant improvement. This study was aimed at ranking Pharmacy School Websites in Iran by Web Impact Factor[WIF]. The webometric method was used in this study. The Data were collected via two search engines: Google and Yahoo. The population of the study consisted of 13 Pharmacy Schools in Iran. Excel and SPSS were used for statistical analysis. The results showed that website of Mashhad Pharmacy School with an WIF of 9.66 in Yahoo and with 44.96 in Google was at the highest rank. While Zanjan Pharmacy School with the WIF of 0.05 in Yahoo and with 0.067 in Google had the lowest rank. The results suggest that despite the low WIF, elements such as number of pages, mass of information and related links have an influence on WIF causing differences in ranking of Pharmacy Schools

RESUMO

One of the recommended ways in organizing the information in the websites is the application of Meta Tags. The application of a variety of Meta Tags can affect the precision rate of search engines retrieval. They can also promote the rank of a website. The purpose of the study was to investigate the structure of libraries websites based on Meta Tags in medical science universities in Iran. This descriptive survey was carried out on 31 websites that included 342 web pages. Data was collected by a checklist and analyzed by SPSS. Title meta tags [98.53%] and Charset meta tags [89.47%] among 15 meta tag types had the most usage and refresh meta tag had the least usage. Usage of keyword and descriptive meta tags were 55.6% and 55.2%, respectively. Generally, 100% websites under investigation used one type of meta tags. Title, Charest, Robot, Keyword and Descriptive meta tags received more attention from the designers of central libraries. But Googlebot, Refresh, Expire and cache Meta Tags received less attention. Librarians' participation in creating library websites and the application of meta tags will play important role in electronic information retrieval

RESUMO

One approach to evaluate the quality of a web page is to investigate its external markers. The purpose of the present study is to determine the relationship between information quality of Persian public health web pages and their external quality. The samples of this correlation study were selected from among the freely available ten-key word texts of chronic diseases in Google and Yahoo search engines. Data were collected by means of two checklists and were analyzed through Pearson correlation test using SPSS software. The reliability of the checklists was determined by test-retest procedure.50 percent of web pages contained all information quality criteria but no WebPages have shown all quality markers. The mean values for the quality of information and appearance markers in web pages were 76.2% and 42.9%, respectively. There was no significant relationship between information quality criteria and external quality markers in the Persian public health web pages. It can be concluded that in Persian public health web pages, the analysis of quality markers is not an appropriate method to judge information quality of these pages. These current tools, therefore, cannot reflect the quality of content in Persian web pages
