RESUMO

Differential scanning calorimetry was used as a tool to study the tablet excipient-Aceclofenac interactions in order to assess their compatibility. Compatibility studies were carried on samples of 1:1 physical mixtures of the drug with various excipients [natural and synthetic] viz., Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, Ethyl cellulose, Chitosan, Eudragit, and Magnesium stearate as sustained release polymers and lubricant respectively at room temperature. Aceclofenac was found to be compatible with all the excipients viz. Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, Ethyl cellulose, Chitosan, Eudragit and Magnesium stearate

RESUMO

Ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts of Commiphora caudata syn: Protium caudatum were tested for anti-inflammatory activity in rats by carrageenan-induced hind paw oedema method. Both ethyl acetate extract and methanolic extract of Commiphora caudata [200 mg/kg of body weight] exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity when compared with control. Indomethacin was used as a reference anti-inflammatory drug

RESUMO

A liquid chromatographic procedure was developed for the determination of a new anticancer agent Bicalutamide in plasma using fluorescence detection by using beta-Cyclodextrin as an enhancer. Chromatography was performed using a reversed phase trimethylsilyl bonded silica column with a mobile phase of water: acetonitrile [30:70] at a flow rate of 1 ml/min. Detection of the eluted peaks was observed using excitation and emission wavelengths of 272 and 328 nm, respectively. Chromatographic run lime did not exceed 10 minutes with no interference of endogenous material. The calibration curve was linear over the concentration range of 0.1 to 0.35 ug/ml and inter- and intra-assay imprecision was less than 10%. The lower limit of quantitation was assessed at 3.96X10 [-5] microg/ml, 1.01X10 [-4] microg/ml and lower limit of detection was 1.3X10[-5] microg/ml, 3.34X10 [-5] microg/ml in formulation and biological fluids respectively

RESUMO

The effect of the methanolic extract of Cleome chelidonii [CCME] was examined on the activities of Phase-I and Phase- II drug metabolizing enzymes, antioxidant enzymes, LDH and LPO in the liver of mice. Anticarcinogenic potential studied by using DMBA induced forestomach and TPA promoted skin papillomagenesis model. The study showed that the extract was able to induce the hepatic activity of Phase-II enzyme glutathione S-transferase [P < 0.005]. DTdiaphorase activity was also increased [P < 0.005]. CCME was augmented mainly the Phase II enzyme activity that is associated with detoxification of xenobiotics, while inhibiting the Phase I enzyme activity. There was an induction in antioxidant level that correlates with the significant reduction of LPO and LDH formation. However, the levels of the two enzymes were significantly reduced [P < 0.005] in the forestomach, kidney and lungs of treated animals. CCME have shown significant reduction on antioxidant enzyme response. Reduced glutathione was significantly elevated in liver [P < 0.05] and in extrahepatic organs [P<0.05]. The CCME revealed a chemopreventive response as shown by the significant inhibition of tumor burden [P < 0.05]

RESUMO

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of aceclofenac was compared with combination of aceclofenac and paracetamol. The analgesic activity was assessed using Eddy's hot plate method and acetic acid-induced method. The anti-inflammatory activity was assessed in acute [Carrageenan-induced oedema] model of inflammation in rat. The aceclofenac and paracetamol combination showed significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity when compared to aceclofenac alone

RESUMO

Flavonoids from Dolichos biflorus Linn, were isolated and screened for antilipidemic activity on rabbits fed with high fat diet [HFD]. Methanolic extract of Dolichos biflorus was fractionated with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. Ethyl acetate fraction which showed maximum flavonoid yield, was fractionated by column chromatography and estimated for flavonoids [total phenol] content. High fat diet rabbits showed significantly increased level of plasma and tissue total cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acids, phospholipids, plasma LDL cholesterol and decreased level of plasma HDL cholesterol. Administration of isolated flavonoids from Dolichos biflorus to high fat diet rabbits showed near to normal [control] level of the above lipid profiles in plasma and tissues. Hence it is concluded that flavonoids of Dolichos biflorus possess antilipidemic activity in high fat diet fed rabbits

RESUMO

The occurrence of aggression for prolonged periods of time could have a hazardous impact on the health and social wellbeing of the individual. Aggression can ensue due to exposure to an intimidating situation. Aggression is prominently seen when a disturbance occurs in the fine balance of neurotransmitters such as 5-hydroxytryptamine, gamma- aminobutyric acid, dopamine and their receptor subtypes. The present study investigated the ability of 100 and 200mg/kg of aqueous extract of Eclipta alba to circumvent aggression. Foot shock induced aggression and water competition test were utilized as models for screening of antiaggressive activity. Eclipta alba significantly minimized dominance [p < 0.05] which is correlated to the level of aggression particularly with 200mg/kg in the water competition test. A tangible behavioral submission was observed with 100 and 200mg/kg and of Eclipta alba in the foot shock induced test

RESUMO

The solubility behaviour of meloxicam in individual solvents ranging from non-polar to highly polar was studied. For understanding the solute-solvent interactions, partial solubility parameters concept was utilized. The extended Hansen's method was used for analyzing the solubility data and for obtaining partial solubility parameters of meloxicam. The analysis was not successful though correlations were 81%. The Flory-Huggins size correction term [B] was found to improve the prediction of solubility. The correlations were high [92%] and total solubility parameter was 11.6 H. The four-parameter approach involving proton-donor and proton-acceptor parameters was also used in fitting the solubility data. The correlations were appreciable [87%] and total solubility parameter was 11.2 H. The term [B] combined with four-parameter approach was also used in order to improve the data, and was found to be improved the correlations [R[2] = 0.94]. This new approach may thus be used in fitting the experimental solubility data and to predict solubility behaviour of meloxicam in untested solvents. The total solubility parameter of meloxicam was assigned at 11.2 H
