RESUMO

A total of 42 patients were studied for primary outcomes of quality of life and 6MWD between VVIR and DDD modes. At end of 2 months after device implantation, randomization was done and the device was programmed to VVIR or DDD modes. At the end of 2 months in this mode QOL and functional was assessed and the patient was switched to other mode. The same protocol was followed at the end of 2 months. We found no difference in functional capacity and quality of life between the two pacing modes. None of the patients developed pacemaker syndrome and there was no preference for any of the modes.

RESUMO

Gout is a debilitating condition that affects millions across the world. In gout, hyperuricemia results in the deposition of monosodium urate monohydrate crystals in joints and soft tissues. IL-1β, an interleukin has been shown to be the most prominent inflammatory marker in the pathogenesis of gout. This study was conducted to assess the IL-1β lowering effect of oral colchicine in gout patients. Forty gout patients were randomly divided into 2 groups and one group was treated with oral colchicine while the other group was treated with NSAIDs for a period of 2 months. Their serum IL1β levels were estimated before and after treatment. Baseline demographics were similar between the groups. It was found that IL-1β levels in the colchicine group were significantly lower than the IL-1β levels of the NSAID group. They also had better symptomatic relief. This study concluded that serum IL-1β was elevated in gout patients and colchicine was effective in lowering it.

RESUMO

Background: In recent years, the search for novel pharmacotherapy from medicinal plants for psychiatric illness was significantly progressed. The present study was performed to evaluate the antidepressant activity of ethanolic extract of Lagenaria siceraria in animal models. Methods: The antidepressant activity of ethanolic extract of the fruit of L. siceraria in rats was assessed using forced swim test and tail suspension test. Imipramine at 15 mg/kg was used as standard antidepressant drug. Results: The ethanolic extract of L. siceraria fruit (EELS) was significantly and dose-dependently reduced the duration of immobility after repeated treatment for 7 days in Forced swim test and Tail suspension Test. But combination of L. siceraria (200mg/kg) with Imipramine gave a highly significant result (p<0.001) in reduction of immobility duration and the effect of high dose (400mg/kg) with imipramine (15mg/kg) did not decrease the duration of immobility period in both animal models at end of the study. In this work the dose of 400mg/kg afforded more protection than the imipramine. Conclusions: The results obtained from this study was indicate that the antidepressant activity of L. siseraria.

RESUMO

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) usually presents as a unilocular, pericoronal radiolucency in the maxillary anterior region in adolescent females. Very few conditions occur in such a narrow age range and at such a restrictive site. Rarely, these tumors present with varied clinical features. A case of AOT of the mandible is reported with unusual features such as large size, multilocular appearance, and aggressive behavior. The role of radiology in diagnosis of atypical AOT is extremely important. The unique radiological manifestations of the lesion helped in the diagnosis, and it was managed conservatively with no evidence of recurrence.

RESUMO

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) refers to those cystic lesions that show clinical, radiographic, or gross features of a mandibular cyst, but on histological examination show a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining part of the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/or mural tumour growth. In this case report we present a uncommon multilocular unicystic ameloblastoma encountered in a 40 year old female patient.

RESUMO

Odontogenic developmental cysts of jaws usually presents as asymptomatic lesions. Dentigerous cyst is one of the variety of these cysts which may grow to a large size intraosseously within jaws before it manifest clinically. Numerous immunohistochemical and molecular marker studies have been carried out for this lesion to understand its etiopathogenesis and aggressive behavior. Another reason being its potential to transform to ameloblastoma and squamous cell carcinoma. We present a case of dentigerous cyst associated with impacted maxillary canine manifesting as a unilateral swelling of midface region.

RESUMO

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is now accepted globally as an Indian disease, having highest malignant potential than any other oral premalignant lesions. The understanding of the exact role of alkaloids and other etiological agents with respect to pathogenesis will help the management and minimize the blind clinical trials and treatment modalities. This article provides an overview of the etiopathogenesis with stress on the recent concepts related to this chronic “Indian Disease”.
