RESUMO

Septic arthritis is also known as joint infection or infectious arthritis or pyogenic arthritis, is the invasion of a joint by an infectious agent resulting in joint inflammation. It is one of the major orthopedic problem. The morbidity and mortality is very high if the treatment is delayed. The causes includes bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Aim of the study: To study the prevalence ethology and complications and management of septic arthritis in our department. Methods: We have studied 80 Acute septic arthritis cases out of these 25 are females 15 are in pediatric age group. Results: Results depends on early diagnosis and treatment, delayed diagnosis and treatment may have high morbidity and mortality. In our study 52 patients (64.78%) had excellent prognosis, 12 patients (15.4%) had good prognosis, 8 patients (9.85%) had poor prognosis and 8 patients (9.85%) are died because of complications. Conclusion: Acute Septic arthritis is still a major health problem in developing countries and India also. The morbidity and mortality is very high in rural part of India and it is mainly because of delayed diagnosis and treatment. So there is need to improve medical facilities in rural part of India.

RESUMO

Osteoarthritis is most common from joint disease of ageing-In the united states Osteoarthritis prevalance will increase by 66 -100% by 2020. It is a major cause of pain and disability in older people. Commonly effected joints are cervical, lumbosacral, hip, knee and first metatarsal phalangeal joints (MTP) Usually the wrist, elbow and ankle joints are spared. Aim of the Study: To study the managament of Osteoarthritis with the help of intra articular steriod injections in rural medical college in South Inda. Methods: We have conducted this study in 210 Osteoarthritis patients for 1 year out of these 210 females are 115 (54.76%) and males are 95 (45.24%). Results: Out of 215 OA patients total 76 patients recevied who articular injections into Bilateral knees, Female were 46 (40%) males were 30 (31.57%), 82 total patients received injection into left knee. 53 females(46.08% ) 29 males (30.25% ) and 43 patients received injections into right knee. Females 24 (20.88%) and males 19 (22.51%). 80 patients received monthly intra articular steriod injections. 8 patients received injections 1-3 months interval and, 3 patients received at 3-6 months intervals. Conclusion: In the treatment of Osteoarthritis, the steriods especially triamcinolone as intra articular injections has got good efficacy for pain and functional ability.
