RESUMO
Objetivos: Avaliar a utilização de duas escalas na eficiência da seleção de cor e a técnica de seleção utilizada por cirurgiões-dentistas que exercem a profissão no município de Belém no estado do Pará e acadêmicos do último ano de Odontologia do Centro Universitário do Pará. Método: Foram escolhidos quatro dentes hígidos ântero-superiores em dois voluntários, os quais foram submetidos à seleção de cor por três profissionais com experiência em prótese dentária. Dos entrevistados, trinta eram profissionais e 15 acadêmicos e as escalas analisadas foram Vitapan Classical e Vitapan 3D-Master. Foi aplicado um questionário com sete perguntas sobre técnica de seleção de cor, no qual foram analisados os fatores: ambiente, fonte de luz, horário ideal e se os dentes estavam úmidos assim como outros quesitos necessários para correta seleção de cor. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos ao teste não paramétrico de Man-Whitney (5%) por se tratar de variável independente e dados subjetivos.Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que não existem diferenças estatísticas significativas entre as escalas pesquisadas quando a seleçãode cor é feita com técnica inadequada e que existe a necessidade de aprimoramento da técnica de seleção de cores pelos cirurgiõesdentistase acadêmicos. Conclusão: Conclui-se que não existe diferença entre a utilização das escalas Vitapan Classical e Vitapan 3D-Master quando a técnica utilizada não segue os padrões ideais de seleção, sendo a quantidade de erros estatisticamente superior à quantidade de acertos, indicando uma necessidade de aprimoramento técnico da seleção de cor pelos cirurgiões-dentistas e acadêmicos.
Objective: To evaluate the use of two scales as regard efficiency of color selection and the selection technique used by dental surgeons thatpractice in the municipality of Belém in the State of Pará, and last year Dentistry students at the Centro Universitário do Pará ? Brazil. Method: Four healthy maxillary anterior teeth were chosen in two volunteers. The teeth were submitted to color selection by three professionals experienced in dental prosthesis. Among the interviewees, there were 30 were professionals and 15 academics, and the scales analyzed were Vitapan Classical and Vitapan 3D-Master. A questionnaire containing seven questions on the color selection technique was applied, in which the following factors were analyzed: room, light source, ideal time, and whether the teeth were humid, as well as other requirements for correct color selection. The data obtained were submitted to the Mann-Whitney nonparametric test (5%) as it concerned an independent variable and subjective data. Results: The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the scales researched when color selection was made with an unsuitable technique and that dental surgeons and academics need to improve their color selection technique.Conclusion: It was concluded that there is no difference between the use of the Vitapan Classical and Vitapan 3D-Master scales when thetechnique used does not follow ideal selection patterns, the number of errors being statistically higher than the number of correct choices,indicating a need for technical improvement in color selection by dental surgeons and academics.
