RESUMO

Pregnancy in a woman with systemic lupus erythematosus [SLE] puts both the mother and her baby in a high risk state on one hand; by the striking increase in the frequency of bouts, and on the other hand by the fact that during the state of pregnancy, the mother will be exposed to a variety of diseases, such as toxemia, thrombophlebits and nephrophathy. Additionally, there is a high risk of having an abortion; death in utero and prematurity. It's mandatory for the patient and the physician to think wisely about the ideal date for the conception and it's also necessary for the pregnant lupic woman to have a multidisciplinary follow up including obstetricians, physicians specialized in internal medicine and neonatology. The worst situation would be a woman with a severe progressive and instable SLE who comes to see you because she became pregnant few weeks ago
