Spontaneous rupture of the liver in postpartum patients with HELLP Syndrome; the role of packing liver lacerations with Surgipro mesh, preliminary report

Two patients with preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome suffered from massive intraperitoneal hemorrhage due to spontaneous postpartum rupture of the liver. Emergency resuscitation, exploratory laparotomy and packing of the liver lacerations with Surgipro mesh rolls could control the bleeding from the liver lacerations

HELLP Syndrome: maternal and fetal complications in comparison to Non-HELLP severe pre-eclampsia

HELLP syndrome was diagnosed in 7 cases out of 120 cases of severe preeclampsia [5.8%]. Comparison of maternal and fetal complications among cases of HELLP syndrome vs. non-HELLP severe preeclampsia, proved that HELLP syndrome was characterized by: higher incidence of preterm labor, low birth weight, less Apgar score, and greater tendency for bleeding and DIC. Blood and blood products transfusion was required more frequently with larger volumes. Hospitalization period was longer in cases of HELLP syndrome

Intracervical prostaglandin E2 gel for induction of labour in cases of unriped cervices

A clinical trial was carried out to study the effect of intracervical pg E2 gel used for induction of labor in cases of unriped cervices. 80 pregnant women, with medical indications for labor induction, were randomly divided into 2 groups. 40 were given 0.5 mg pg E2 gel intracervically, the other group was given oxytocin I.V. drip for induction of labor, [control group]. The prostaglandin E2 gel intracervically for induction of labor was followed by highly significant increase of Bishopscore after 6 hours [P <0.001], shorter induction-delivery period [P <0.005], shorter duration of oxytocin augmentation when it was needed [P <0.01] and lower rate of cesarean section [P <0.05]. No side effects were noticed during or after pg E2 gel. No maternal or fetal complications were recorded
